I found a non-running B12 locally, but the guy wants $350 for it. Seems way high to me, but I'm new to this category of machines. Any input would be appreciated.

I just picked up a RUNNING lawntractor and a RUNNING snowblower for $100. #50 is waay too much for a non runner,unless it's in showroom condition. Member you can't check engine, tranny,deck spindles, etc. and all them parts can cost a lot of coins to fix up.Heck, up here the battery is a $50 bill these days! So you could easily have $500 into the beastie ONLY to find out it needs anotehr 1,000 to make it cut grass. Now for comparison,I do have a B212 with a rebuilt deck(NEW shell, spindles, blades) AND a rototiller and have $400 into it. If money's no object and it's nice,maybe 350 ain't bad but...just be prepared. Depends on a few variables. It could have $350 or more worth of options, accessories or attachments. A good condition original B-12 carries higher than typical collector value, even without a motor. A optionless, nonrunning B series is always worth a baseline $100 if it's in decent shape. I would say a nonrunning B-12 that doesn't have any obvious transmission, BGB or engine issues, has it's original seat frame and fair cosmetics, will be worth about $250-300. A 12 horse briggs to drop in, is cheap. Getting one going if it doesn't need an overhaul or major repair can be a simple matter of maintenance. I would wiggle things that shouldn't wiggle, to see if there's any issues in the drivetrain and motor, and if that feels good, base the value on the cosmetic appeal. obvious damage includes... mangled right fender torn/busted seat battery acid damaged tin at console no battery flat right rear(sidewall kaput ?) no deck( off-stored ??) none of these are a deal breaker but a great excuse to lower the price... ------------- 3 D-14s,A-C forklift, B-112 Kubota BX23S lil' TOOT( The Other Orange Tractor) Never burn your bridges, unless you can walk on water |

No rare options but it does look complete. The fender may be an issue of just the mounting screws being missing as its no longer attached at the rear two mounting holes and fenders are easy enough to find if damaged beyond repair. The original seat parts are also all present. Nearly all of these old B-Series will show oil leaks on the trans because there was no o-ring or seal on the shifter shaft so that is a leak point was well as the rear axle seals commonly leak. ------------- 10 various B-series garden tractors, AC Homesteader8, 416 hydro,710 gt, 914, 916H, 917H, 920D, and many misc attachments |

| Yup. Other then what these others said I noticed is the hood what you see is in good shape. Ours start cracking on the more used tractors and end up sitting in the corner of shop |
