Moisture as of Sunday.   Think it will be to under 14% by next Sunday?  Weather calls for lots of heat....

When we cut ours it was 14 and the next day it  was 12. And it was humid then even more then it is now. I think it was the 18th and 19th of June. You wont have to worry about it being dry by Sunday if its ripe,95 degree days will suck the moisture right out of it.

Yea the wheat was pretty decent considering we have had another monsoon down here this spring. Sold 10,000.00 worth of straw off of 90 acres. And have double crops up on them. So its been the best thing around here all spring. We did get done replanting the replants today. 3rd time is a charm you know.

I have some lodging. Some of this heirloom wheat is over 5'9" tall (my height) Also had a few heads with black mold. On the grain of these you will see a black spot on the very end of the kernel.  Hope not a quality killer.  Vomotoxin...hope not a issue. This is hopefully to be food grade wheat...is lodged wheat that filled out while on the ground going to be lesser quality? Should I not harvest it?  Dont see any black mold on the heads of the downed wheat, but the heads are bleached out more....

Bleached out heads are usually scab. Take some heads and rub them between your hands to shell them and examine the seed. Scab usually results in light weight and shriveled grain.

Nope not shriveled and nor "dusty" as with the scab either.  I think that it just might be a case of the head lying on the ground getting more direct sunlight, thus more bleaching.
 
Every so often I see a standing head that is almost completely black. On the lower end of the kernal you may see just a speck of black.  What kind of mold is that?
 
On threshing by hand, Hard to get the kernals off the plant, have to "strip" it back with thumb and forefinger. Most of the kernals then come off the hulls easily, but a few will have the last bit of hull stuck to the kernal.  I know this is a tell tale sign of wheat not dry enough yet, but at 18% I would think it should come apart a little easier?  Maybe its a feature of this variety (red fife)  This is a awnless wheat FWIW.
 
Only the second time I have done wheat myself, and I am looking very closely at it as I want to sell it food grade.
 
Also on the toxins: Vomitoxin,mycotoxin,aflotoxin...three seperate tests?

Tom, vomitoxin is the one one you should be most concerned with among the mycotoxins.

Looks like I have a little "blackpoint" going on probably from some black head mold.
dont think its in excess much, need to take a closer look.
