What model is subsoiler & did this model have a stand on front to match tractor snap coupler?

Maybe an "optical illusion" but looks too close to the pto?

Might have the blade mounted up-side-down, looks like it might clear the pto better, thatta way... Sorry, don't know the number, if it has 1...

I've never seen a stand for those and I do think I read somewhere the PTO shaft is supposed to be taken off when using the subsoiler.Also the arms are bent on the sub soiler so it makes the tongue come up higher than it should

In 1955 dad purchased a new subsoiler and the frame - 2 side plates had a bend upwards and the cross bar was mounted on the top of these flat bars. Also recommend to remove the pto shaft. The subsoiler we have now is equipped with a turn buckle.

According to the Manuel I have, it is a #3 WD subsoiler made by Athens Plow Co. The pictured subsoiler in this picture is wrong. The cross piece that holds the two coupler links should be on top and the shank should be in the back hole. This would give more clearance at PTO.

you are right gary,I still have the allis fish hook style subsoiler.we had to remove the pto to operat it

I believe Doug is right calling it a #3. I've got a #4 which has a slightly curved mainframe to avoid hitting the PTO shaft. In the first picture, I had removed the PTO shaft because I thought it might hit it. It didn't, and I've since re-installed the PTO shaft. The second picture shows how the cross-beam should be mounted (I believe...)

Thanks for the info, like that logo on your subsoiler. Headed to farm show in Louisville, when I get back I will put hitch on top & straighten both lift arms. Will solve hitting PTO shaft & will go deeper in ground. located operating instructions for Model No 3 WD subsoiler.

IN the off season I would take the tooth off the frame an install a metal top oin the frame that we made from a steel roller, The top had sides bent up on the sides between the lift arms. We installed two steel 55 gal barrel on top and would go to the back of the farm to get water from a pond. Chop a hole in the ice and bucket the water into the barrel. The water was used to give the cattle a drink since our well had a poor flow, Finally Jan 1961 a 4" well was drilled in the 50 ft 5 ft dug well. This well is still running the farm today and thousands of gallons of water are used each season to spray the crops. We ran a WD with curved gear shift equipped with New Idea Horn loader and 3/8" tire chains. Sometimes the WD would get stuck and i would shovel it out and continue the journey. Back in those days there was no extra money so one made use of what was available or modified what we had to do the job,

Straighten rods & put mount on top, PTO has clearance, paint when weather permits.

I take the PTO shaft off before using my #3, it's the safe play. I have not looked in the book so I don't know if it talks about removing the PTO shaft or not.

Both your subsoiler and Brian's are No 3 models. In April 1955 the straight beams were replaced with the curved beams, probably so that the PTO shaft could be left on the tractor. Info from the October 1958 parts catalog.
