Bought a wd45 with 12 volt alternator and battery, the coil is supposably from a d17, i know the lights won't work that way but will everything work or should i get the right coil and put a resistor on it?

change the light bulbs to 12 volt and they will work. The D-17 coil might be a 12 volt coil, in which case you don'y need a resistor. Bob

Larry, do you have or can you borrow a digital ohm meter? A coil with 3 to 4 ohms resistance on the primary side is what you're after.  Before I converted both of my gas tractors to electronic ignition, I was using a coil from a Kohler K series engine. A ballast resistor can be added, but it is best in my opinion to use a coil that doesn't require one. One less thing to break...
