D19 power director ....HELP!

My D-19 power director is stuck in high range, the lever is loose and it flops around, I took the side cover off and it appears there are two brass halves that are engaged to the shifter fork but inside those brass halves there is a round piece that moves freely on the power director clutch end shaft...... any ideas If I have to split the tractor? anyone have any ideas how that round piece is attached to the power diurector clutch? The lever is tight on the shaft.

Sherman, Wish I could help more since the Power Directors I worked on stopped with the D-17. However, the problem I had one time at Pimlico Race Track there is a set screw that keeps the Power Director handle in place. In my case that had fallen out. All I had to do was to put it back in.

Hope it is that simple.

The brass shift collar fits around a steel slider that is attached to the clutch by links and pins. The brass collar has a grove on the inside to move the slider, the brass collar may be broken on one side and won`t pull the slider to disenguage the clutch. Now the bad part, without looking at I would say you are looking at splitting the tractor to repair. Your only hope is that it is broken link or pin you maybe able to get to it through the side cover.
