Looking for a gauge wheel setup for an Allis 2000 monoframe plow, the 4-16 I just bought looks like it never had one.. how important is it to have one???

I have one on my 3-18s don't know if it is really necessary on smaller ones but would think it is needed on bigger plows.

Rackin' my brain if our plow like that had a gauge wheel........hmmmmm..........I really don't think so....but maybe? Getting old and it's been a while....

I don't think you really need one. They aren't meant to bear weight while plowing, more like if you get the tire rolling you're at the right depth. IMHO

By the way....Man I miss that plow, that was a nice pulling nice plowing setup!

My 2000 plow has a gauge wheel. I think I plowed one year without it after breaking the hub. The rear lift wheel on the hydraulic cylinder that rides in the last furrow helps keep the plow level and can adjust the depth. But the gauge wheel is handy for even depth control of the back end of the plow while the tractor hitch controls the front of the plow.

The gauge wheel was pretty simple, a flat steel plate that ubolted to the beam with a spindle shank on the lower end of the steel that runs a standard wheel hub (available from Shoup and from Baum Hydraulics) and wagon wheel and tire.

I just went to farm and fleet and picked up 3or4 ram stops for hydraulic cylinder on back of plow,they control the depth of plow in rear,just clip em on cylinder shaft

that plow is a long plow, meaning it sets back further than the older SC"s .

On flat ground you wouldn't need a gauge wheel, but my ground is more rolling and when the tail wheel needs to allow more suction for faster entry the gauge wheel is there to hold the plow at a predetermined maximum depth on the rear bottoms and tractor hydraulic's holding the front of the plow.

This is good, but would be better if the plow would be closer coupled
