You want an automatic battery maintainer, not a plain trickle charger. The simple trickle charger will overcharge the battery if left on continuously. The automatic battery maintainer has a voltage regulator (and it needs to be for a 6 volt battery) that keeps it from overcharging the battery. Gerald J. |

| If you don't want to spend a lot of money, go with Steve's recommendation. If you also need a battery charger you might be able to kill two birds with one stone. Google "smart battery chargers" and see what comes up. Finding one that does 6 volts might be a challenge. These act as 3 stage chargers and put the charger in the "float" mode after the battery is charged. Again, it depends on if you also need a charger. You'll pay more for a smart charger. |

In the 'good old days' you'd use a 12 volt charger and put a 6 volt light bulb in series with the 6 volt battery. A sI said in another related thread(solar 6 volt), I can easily code the microcomputer to do the 'maintainer' 3 step process BUT I can't buy the bits and pieces for what they sell complete 'off the shelf' units for... Any of the SCR based 'chargers' should work as 'maintainers' as once the battery is up to snuff, they shut off until the battery 'drains down' a tad... ------------- 3 D-14s,A-C forklift, B-112 Kubota BX23S lil' TOOT( The Other Orange Tractor) Never burn your bridges, unless you can walk on water |

I bought it for my motorcycle a couple of years ago and it will charge a 12 volt battery slowly, then maintain it. I subsequently got rid of the motorcycle and now use it on my B to keep the battery from discharging over time. You'll have to ask the electronicals why it won't charge 6 volt batteries.

someone on here has the best setup, I've seen, He took a solar panel, offn a 6V 'lectric fence charger and put a coupla wires wif alligator clips, to the battery... I'll let him post the pics, if he wants to...
