Wheat harvest seems to be coming a little earlier than usual in the Shanandoah Valley of VA this year.  It looks like I'll be getting started some time this week. Due to my day job, I won't begin cutting until 5:30 or so each day, and will probably quit around 7:30 or whenever the straw gets tough.  Needless to say, it will take some time to cut 7 acres this way with a 40 inch header, so I don't expect to finish up until next weekend. If anyone is interested in watching or participating, send me a PM and I'll send you directions and let you know when I'll be cutting.

Here's a picture from last year, sorry I don't have a goofy hat for this year...

Brett,

Looks like fun. Maybe I should take 1/2 day vacation.

Brett.

Everytime I looked at a small patch of Rye, that I let go to seed, I think Of you and Paul and your All Crop 40s. This stuff is as tall as the radiator cap on your C.        KA

Are you here yet? ;-)

Ken:

Paul won't be able to come down to help combine this year since the grain is ready about two weeks earlier than it usually would be.  I am thinking of raising some rye to sell for cover crop seed.  It may be easier for me to market than wheat is in this area.

Thats the kind of goofy hat I would be wearing.  Baseball cap does very little for sun protection. Besides, that hat "matches" the combine.  All you need is bib overalls.

Brett
After reading up a little on rye grain uses, I believe there are enough nitch market opportunities  for a rye harvest to go for it.   Good Luck

Find a "high lift" attachment for that 40!
