I'm so glad to be able to read about some of the items you professional tractor owners list every day. (been reading for only 2 days in this GREAT forum) I'm not a pro at all...I'm just the guy that bought a 1982 Diesel 3cyl Allis Chalmers 6140 and trying...key word, "trying" to learn something about my new tractor. I know NOTHING about tractors and I think it's about to learn, because I'm now the owner of this: (and lots of farm implements too)  I've ordered the service and parts manuals and I can't find any recommendations for engine oil. Should I use 15/40w HD diesel oil (thanks to Joe) or straight 30w or ??? I can't find where is says anything about the recommended oil for my 6140. I've tried doing some research on filters...oil, fuel, air, etc...and it's not easy finding info on this 6140. Any filter part numbers sure would be helpful. I did buy three 5 gallon buckets of Traveller Premium Universal Tractor Trans/Hydraulic fluid from Tractor Supply the other day. This was the only brand that showed on the back of the 5 gallon bucket that might be compatible with my tractor. (I hope I'm correct??) I'm not sure if there is a screen or filter for the Trans/Hydraulic fluid that needs to be changed as well? Like I said, I know nothing and just starting to learn. | Outstanding tractor. Looks great, factory loader and all. I have never had a 6140 but I'm sure there are other members that have some good info on them. Welcome to the forum. |

Welcome....That is one tractor that has been on my list. Especially with front wheel assist. Really don't know why. I have heard varying reports. Have and had 160's and liked them. Any good multi weight diesel oil will be fine for the engine. It has a preheater for the manifold, for cold weather starting, never use ether... high compression indirect injection .. ------------- When told "it's not the money,it's the principle", remember, it's always the money.. |

Welcome Freddy. I'm assuming you're new to operating tractors as well? If so, please be extra careful. They can and will injure and kill. The best advice I can give, and have given, to new owners is drive it with your butt. If your butt tells you that you shouldn't try something or you shouldn't be somewhere, then you shouldn't. Also, just because it has a loader doesn't mean it will move the world.
