I just bought a snap coupler post hole digger that came off of a CA. It is orange and presumably Allis. It has about a 2" dia. pipe "U" shaped main frame. The ends of the "U are flaired out and looks to fit over the pins at the rear of the CA. There are also some brackets off the top of the main "U" frame that come up and attach to the snap coupler latches for lifting. I will post a picture when I pick it up. In the mean time, would anyone have a picture of one that was sold by Allis for the CA's.

I do not have a pictue but there was one made by Allis Chalmers. It was a Roper Post Hole Digger. We sold several and they worked very well.

If I recall they fit very easily and work well.

Bill could you clarify something for me. You say there was a PHD made by Allis, it was a Roper. Do you mean there was a PHD made by Roper for Allis tractors? I don't think Allis ever made Roper products. The same thing happens when people see the tag on a Freeman loader. Allis didn't make Freeman loaders but had them produced by Freeman to fit Allis tractors.

Ropers have a channel iron frame. It must be an Allis one.

Roper built the unit for AC. The # 10 was AC built in the LaCosse. And I think it was 3 PT only?

The # 10 did come in 3 PT and SC. I have a SC one and have seen 3 Pt ones.

I am home for a day and have looked at Pop's 1960 Price Book. It shows a post hole digger in the La Cross Section for D-17 to D-10, WD-45, WD, and CA tractors equipped with Snap Coupler. The base machine weighed 236 lbs and listed for $ 169.00. There were various augers that could be used from 6" to 24" with prices ranging from $ 63.00 - $ 137.80.

The equipment was shipped from Indianapolis, Indiana which indicates it was not made in an Allis Chalmers factory but in an after market operation like a roper. I definitely know it was not a danhuser since they have a very distinct gear box while the roper looks like a model A Ford Rear End.
