Folks, Gary called me and told me about a WD45 going at auction down south. I took a drive yesterday and looked it over. Pretty good shape. Thinking of maybe letting my narrow front WD go at auction and picking up this 45. You never know till its over how you might come out on one of these deals. Folks do or don't like the tractor you brought and don't pay much and the one you want goes sky high for some reason! That would be my luck. My WD has some issues too. One rear rim is bad. Rear tires are old and cracked. All exterior is pretty rust covered. Tried to start it last night. lots of gas no spark. If I can get it running it just may go down the road. I will let you know how this comes out. I would like to get 800 out of it but with its issues and being a WD that may be the upper limit around here. The WD45 on the other hand has better rims, still has older tires on rear too. Most of the sheet metal was pretty good. Oil pressure was good, Shifted through all gears ok. Was balking and stalling a lot. 12 volt alt conversion. Batt box mostly gone. Wiring old. had 6 v coil with ballast resistor. Started up ok but again stalled under load often. Brakes worked good. Hand clutch and foot clutch worked ok. My guess its a 1200 $ tractor maybe more? Wide front 3 bolt with Charlin power steering added. It seemed to work good. Also has a three point hitch which would work good for brush hogging or back blade snow removal. So this is just some words. I need to get out and look at my old WD and decide if I want to do some horse trading. Any suggestions/advice welcome. Regards, Chris

That's not one of your family WD's is it?Seems like I remember another troublesome one that was over at your daughter's. Sounds like the 45 has some issues too, but the 3-points are about $400 if you buy one. Charlynn setup would probably sell for $400 too.

Thanks guys, No its not a family tractor that would go down the road. Its the one that I put together from another parts tractor. It has been setting outside for several years at my daughters. I did get it running today and its setting on the trailer not chained down. Thought I better come and check the Allis forum for any words of wisdom. You never know when you buy any old used equipment. I am pretty sure that its going to not be a even money exchange. But moving up to a 45 would be nice too. 3 pt and power steering would be pluses. And your probably right on the prices of those two items. Ready to go chain her down and hit the auction blocks. As mentioned not to much to lose here either. Its only tractors and money! I will let you know. Maybe even pictures?!:) Regards, Chris

You might be disappointed at what your WD sells for vs what the WD45 will cost you. Go ahead if you really want the 45.

Sorry I just missed you Chris. Yep, it's worth the move up. Especially the PS. I've got too much S/C stuff, so the 3-point doesn't interest me. One of mine had a homemade 3-point on it when I got it, so I took it off. Biggest thing is the tranny popping out and a smoking engine, but you already know that. You'll be glad you pulled the trigger after you get it home. I consider it twice the tractor and probably the best one Allis ever made. Kind of a toss up between the D-17 and the 45. Not much to go wrong and you already know how to tear into everything, it's just like the WD, only stronger and louder. You'll LOVE IT! I wonder if you can take the Char-Lynn off'n it and put it on the D-17 of yours?

Folks, Well we are proceeding the auction route for the Old WD that I am not to attached too. I have some money in it and some sweat equity too. So my best outcome would be to break even on it. I set a reserve on it at $800. It may not get there? We will see. Headed to auction:
and new to me F250:
Also some pictures of the 45 that will be going home with someone Sat.
Maybe those Adjusters will open and the wheels can slide in? Too wide for my trailer: minor details!
crunched:
typical non existent portions of the battery box. Note no lights!
12 volt conversion
wide front seems tight
added push bar hitch
random under belly shots:
sheet metal and tank seem ok
Quadrant broken and some wear:
Power steering? I am not a good judge (FYI Ted I have PS on the D17, very nice BTW!)
Stay tuned: Your mileage may vary! Guess I am going to a auction Saturday, Not sure if we will be selling, buying or just having a hot dog! Regards, Chris

Note the extra holes in the fenders. They may have redrilled and moved the fenders. Good-looking tractor otherwise.

Doug, Not sure about the extra holes in the fenders? My guess is they may have been for a sun shade or something??? There are at least 5 Allis-Chalmers at this auction. They seem to be pilling up in the area?:) Couple WC's, my WD, a D12, and the 45! Regards, Chris

Dave, Thanks! I knew there wouldn't be to many folks discouraging me on a new tractor. That's just the way we roll on here! Egging each other on with realistic recommendations and comments. If I could bring the 45 home for under $1500 I think I would be doing pretty good. Just never know at a auction. This is a little different for me I usually just buy em, not much of a seller! But I don't really need to add to the herd, and the 45 might make a better tractor on my daughters farm, for brush hogging and for snow plowing too. We had two 45's on the farm They, along with a WD and a B did all the big work on 200 acres for 15 years! Many hours on them as a kid, either turning dirt or hay or traveling between the two farms 5 miles apart. Not sure how they ran as good or as long as they did with minimal maintenance on them? One was a 55 without power steering. The other, a 56 had factory power steering which was always sweet to drive!
Thanks for the comments on the truck! That new to me Ford has me pretty spoiled already too! A 2015 F250, PSD Lariate Ultimate package. 6.7 Diesel just pulls awesome, compared to the old 5.4 gas in the 2009. Color is Ruby Red with Caribou lower accent, and black interior.

EP, I know that I like the D17 I picked up at this same auction a year ago. The D15 would be a awesome tractor to have too. Seem to be just the right size, and have a lot more features and creature comforts than the WD series. Looking for something positive to come out of this adventure too. I had bought the WD as a parts tractor, then got it running with a engine transplant from a very broken WD.
(Back issues are keeping me up about half the night so I get to check in more often!)
Hope things are good out there in ORANGE land!

It does look like a pretty nice WD. Looks like maybe some of the sheet metal was repainted. The power steering would be nice. Sometimes I wish mine at it. Then when after pulling the motor several times, I was glad I didn't have to mess with that too. SO go figure. Good luck and hope it all works out.

The answer to the question in the title is Yes! But the story is interesting! Arrived at the sale at 8:30 this morning. Did a ton of visiting. Almost missed when they were ready to sell the WD45 Wide front. i bulled my way to the front and had the chance to have the first bid of $1000. That was the last time I nodded. A young guy wanted it for his Dad and another guy wanted one just because. They ended the bidding at $3400!!! Yes $3400! I was a little shocked! It sure wasnt coming home on my trailer! So I walked up the line and took a look at the other tractors. Next Allis was ready to sell I took a quick look at it, which I had not looked at prior. Humm curved shifter, solid block, correct oil filler lid, big carb, narrow front end, solid 3 point hitch! Bothe front tires wer flat and it had a big plastic tub attached to the left side. Pretty ugly. Tractor started right up. bidding started. So I said to myself, self if you want a WD45 this could be the one. Went to $850 and I owned it! WC next door did not sell. A little later my WD came up on the block. They got to 600 stumbled and then moved to $750. I nodded to let it go. The new owner was the same guy I was bidding against on the 45 narrow front end. he was happy. I was happy. So I bought a WD45 for $100 plus tax above what my WD brought. I was happy. Pictures coming: Its rough, farm fresh. Has all the normal issues. Mismatched rear tires but are in way better shape then the ones on the WD. some rim rot, but not as bad as the blown out rim on the WD.
I now own a 45! Cross that off the bucket list!
Regards, Chris

Steve, Thanks! When are you going to look at that C with wide front? As for the comments on the truck. Its working pretty good so far! Yea its a 6.7 diesel, lots of ponies for this old man! My mid life crisis truck! First used Ford truck in 40+ years. I couldn't justify the new prices. This truck had a original window sticker of $65K. 3 years old with a trade in, it was about half of that. Much more tolerable for Cheryl to make the payments!:) Its from this area and had 100K miles on it.I am still playing with that new toy too. Just bought a set of used rims and tires for the winter. Did the paraffin undercoating, lineX bedliner, Timbren over load bumpers, window and bug guard bling. Back to orange. Regards, Chris

John, Thanks. Will get some pictures up when my computer and photobucket are working together again. Just a crusty old 45. Will fit right in with the herd! It needs cleaned up and fluids changed. I see it has the infamous rear main seal leak, along with hydraulic cylinders dripping too. Well I just cant seem to be able to load any photos from my computer to Photobucket. They all crash about 90% through the loading?? We will see? Starting to really aggravate me! I need to get some antifreeze for the 45. i opened the petcock on the block and it looked more like muddy water than anything green. Need a new temp gauge too as there is just a plug in the current spot. Will order some parts from Sandy Lake next week. Need the air cleaner to carb hose too. The chain from the snap coupler release is gone, and the brake return springs ar both gone. I have one spring on the old WD carcuss, will have to find the one for the left brake hold back. Must have stole it for one of the resto's. Also need the big set screw for the front pulley to crank. Yea its missing. its a wonder its not spinning on there!! I may have one of those from the spare engine? So its a typical project tractor. I guess I am over the fact that I let a tractor go down the road. Regards, Chris

Glad you got to cross something off of your bucket list Chris! It's a good feeling when things come together and you get something you want for little or nothing. Now the FUN starts!! Fixing things that need it and then fixing it up the way YOU WANT IT. Before I'd do much though, I'd give it a compression test. That'll tell you how deep you've gotta go with it. Good luck and

Me too! But where is this picture storage thing going? Enjoyed the ride. Looks bumpy from here on out?
anyway: a old 45 in its work clothes.
Yes some rim repairs required someday.
washed the crust off and a lot of grease on the engine. (Note to self: must put a tapered lock pin and nut on the pulley on the crank.)
Grill has issues, talked to a farmer about 5 miles from me that may have one for sale.
3 point should work well for brush hog.
carb side: I took the lights off the WD so they will be retrofit to this 45. That probably saved me at least $75.
Sorry for the blurry pictures. Just not running on all cylinders today! Regards, Chris

Ted, folks, I think its a good idea about checking the compression. I don't own a compression tester but this might be a good reason to get one? May check with NAPA, they have tool rental. The old 45 seems to start and run good. Governor opens up quick. Found the other brake pedal hold back spring. It was laying on the parts tractor. Still gleaning parts from it. I may have the right brake dragging and I see lots of oil/ grease on the left final drive. Also hear some noise from the left final drive when in high. Need to check that out for oil level in lower pan. Worst case is I may have the parts tractor final to repair it. Doesn't seem to have a problem with any gear jumping. Greased the front end after tighten up the vertical key, seemed to steer better. still have a flat tire on the front. Would be nice to have factory power steering! Doug, Good point! I had to take the WD air cleaners apart and remove the mesh and clean it too. They we packed with dirt and debris. The cup on this one looks like it was soldered up on the side? Have to get that off and check it out. Although about every part needs something! Regards, Chris

Dave, How are things in Marble? That Wolfs Corners pull is for you big boys! I fit better in the old antique pulls! Did have fun there last July though. I am just not into it very deep yet and may never be. We will see! The 45 may not be ready for pulling yet? It is going to have winter snow plowing duties for now. Then needs some attention. I am beginning to get to know it and it has some issues lurking. I think the tractor I sold was a much better mechanical tractor than this one. That's what happens in horse tradin. Some are better than others. Regards, Chris

Ranse, Thanks! The 45 wide front was way over bid (in my opinion) by a young fellow that wanted it and a older guy that wanted it too and wasn't going to let the young guy get it cheap. Probably was a $1800-$2000 tractor with the Charlin and the three point, and wide front. Was pretty straight but the battery box was still gone, No lights. wrong seat, grill cut for alt... Folks, So I hear this noise from the left final in road gear. May be low on oil? Not sure. Question is the finals the same on a WD as a 45? I assume they are but asking to get some feed back. Not going to tear into it soon but would be good to know if my parts tractor could be used for spares? Regards, Chris

I went to an auction back in 2001 or 2002 in Michigan. Guy had a really nice 1100 hour 185, a Series IV D17 gas and the cleanest WD45 I have ever seen. The WD45 was a working tractor not a show queen but very much original, battery box was complete. It had a wide front and Char-Lynn power steering. It also had a Char-Lynn crankshaft driven hydraulic pump, He used it to power his log splitter. There was a large Char-Lynn hydraulic reservoir on one side of the tractor, never seen that setup before. That tractor sold right in the $3300 ball park of the one you seen sell. He also had a very nice Allis Chalmers Snap Coupler grader blade with extensions. That was probably the most memorable auction I have been to as the stuff was Allis Chalmers and very nice.

I remember when My Dad and I hauled His 45 home from Ohio back in 1995 we kept wondering why the rear tires were worn so funny. When He got it together there was a bad bearing and axle in the tractor, found parts in a junk yard to fix. Good luck, at least these tractors aren't too bad to work on.

Thanks guys! Really in today's world $3400 is the price of a throw away lawn mower. So really these tractors are probably way under valued!:)
Good story on the tractor. Fearing the worst I may have a bearing issue in this 45 rear end too! At min the seals are bad somewhere and its out of oil, which may not be a good thing either.
John, Thanks for the HF tip of the day. I will look into that unit. Price sounds right. So what are good cylinder compression numbers for a 45? Regards, Chris

I think you made a good trade and a good story. Nice that the other guy got your WD and is happy with it. Other than that front grill it actually doesn't look crusty at all! That 3-point looks just like the one that my 45 came with. It always worked good and was strong. It's off now for all my snap coupler implements. It'll be fun to see how it compares plowing and such to your D17 and WD's. I think an original WD45 at 6.5:1 compression was about 130 PSI. The 7.25 D17 piston was 150PSI. Good luck and keep us updated. I think the tractor work will be the easy part. Tougher part will be showing us those darned photos!

Dave, Thanks for the positive comments! Thanks for the WD45 compression numbers too. How is that rebuilt 45 (17!) engine running for you? If I was to build one I would follow your thread. Of course it might be without pictures.:( This picture thing is not good! I have 4000 pictures on photobucket being held hostage at some point. I am having a hard time even loading Allis photos to the photobucket system. Only about 5 of 25 loaded! I would like to try the three bottoms on this tractor too. My back is messed up so that's going to have to wait!
Thanks for the comments on the 3 pt. I though it looked solid. Way better that the Jerry rigged system on the one that went down the road. Do you have side (anti sway) chains on yours? I would like to keep the brush hog or back blade stable and near center. Regards, Chris

Yep, Harbor Freight has them and you can get them online. i believe that they still ONLY charge $5 for shipping. No matter HOW much stuff you get from them. I had forgotten about the air cleaner. When I bought my WD45, it was completely plugged! No wonder there wasn't an air hose going from the cleaner to the carb. Those lazy guys would rather take off the hose than clean out the air cleaner. It's a job!! I put NEW mesh in mine and cleaned the old stuff and am keeping it for ??? WHY do I keep all them old parts.
Chris, thanks for the support on the POSSIBLE server and software for doing our own pics on here. I've changed the title of the thread, hoping that others will see it and read and support such an idea. It would make our lives a LOT easier!

Sorry to hear about the back problems! Not good for a WD45 ride. I forgot about the air cleaners comments. My WD45 mesh was soldered in too. I swished it with gas over and over and over and OVER to clean it out before painting. Never did take it apart. I got a new carb to air cleaner hose form Steiners. This is what my 3 point was. That big bracket in the middle with the 3 tabs on the left and right. Some how the lift arms would hit on the sides and sway control. I took it off and painted it in 2009 and never put it back on. SO I don't exactly remember how it all went now. http://https://www.ebay.com/itm/3-Point-Hitch-Conversion-Kit-Allis-Chalmers-D15-D17-WD-WD45-D14-/400744493735" rel="nofollow - http://https://www.ebay.com/itm/3-Point-Hitch-Conversion-Kit-Allis-Chalmers-D15-D17-WD-WD45-D14-/400744493735 My 45's running great. I pulled with it the July 4th and did poorly. Then did better after adjusting the draw bar and tire pressure a little more. Motor never even slowed down at all in 1st. Flagger mumbled to himself, "That thing sounds like a sewing machine" The pictures are frustrating. I need to redo some of mine, but haven't had/made the time. Great to hear from you!

Dave, Folks, These Allis' and pulls are another story too. I see a lot of other tractors with good engines and 38 inch rubber pull a lot farther than the Allis tractors. I am usually near the center of 14-18 tractors in the 5500 lb class with the D17. My old WD's were not competitive at all and usually near the back of the pack. Very hard tires didn't help! Going out to take the front left off and get the rims to the tire shop for de-mounting. Then I can maybe repair the rims and get tires remounted before winter. Also need to drain rad and get antifreeze in it. Supposed to snow tonight. Pull the wife's car out and put the 45 in the garage. She will love that!:) Regards, Chris

Folks getting a list of needs for the 45. I have to find a new air cleaner cup. mine is patched several places and is too bad to fix. Who
ever mentioned about checking the air cleaner mesh was on the mark Its a
disaster! Probably why the carb to air box hose was gone. Its so
plugged with watery looking oil, not sure the tractor would have run
well at all. The drain in the bottom of the rad was plastic screw. Replaced that with a correct brass pet cock. the
hole where the temp gauge goes had a steel plug in it. I welded a
washer on that, then a 1/2 inch nut. this provided the heat to break
this free without damage to the radiator neck inlet. Will order a temp
gauge. Drained the radiator and block. installed a gallon of antifreeze plus a gallon + of water to get near a 50-50 mix. Realized
that the tapered screw in the crank pulley is broke off in there! So
that will not be fixed unless the engine is tore down;. Added the brake pedal spring for the right side. Need to find correct brake spring for the left pedal. Got both front rims off and took to shop and de-mounted. Rims are rusty and need the holes welded up and also straightened too. So on we go. A couple pictures using the green tree method of loading.

Claus, Yes I checked with local tractor parts shop. New front rims are $75 each. Rear 28 inch and 14 wide are $400 ish. So I could put $2000 into rims and tires. But I will probably patch these up and make them go a little longer. Just never will get all the money back on those Not that I would not like to have them. Folks, So as we continue the story of the WD45: I took the front rims to the blaster at 11:30. They called at 2:30 and said they were done so I picked them up $20 to blast them saved me hours of sanding and grinding. Will get them in primer due to our rainy weather and then work on patching the holes, and pounding out the bent edges. I have two tires that are acceptable/presentable, and will get those mounted with new tubes. Put my order in to Sandy Lake for parts needed for now. None of the parts are urgent, and they may have to see if they have some used parts like the oil bath cup and the spring for the brake pedal return. I want to do a belt pulley delete cup. Do I need to pull the frame rail and install a new gasket? I had the other two tractors apart when I did the pulley delete. Pictures? I will try to get some and load direct using tree in header. Thanks to Kenny L for showing me some tricks and things about using that feature. Picture count will be limited to like 160, then old ones will have to be removed. Maybe that's OK since old threads rarely pop back up? Regards, Chris

Hi Chris! Like the others, way to go on scoring this WD45!
An idea if you haven't thought about it yet, when you get ready to add the delete in the belt pulley hole, drive the tractor up on a cinder block or a stack of wood blocks, RR tie, etc, in order to tilt the tractor to the left so that when you pull the pulley out, you won't lose very much oil out the hole like you would if you were sitting level. I say this as I watched my dad do it one time when I was a kid and that was why. He slid out the pulley and popped in the delete in one movement. Out with the left and in with the right. My dad was also very strong, too, to do that one handed. HTH.

Hi. Please do not use cinder blocks, concrete blocks, or anything similar. Your life or limbs are not worth it. They were never designed for that use and are an accident waiting to happen. Get rid of them. I did not intend to hijack this thread; but, your health is important to us. Sorry. Perhaps a separate thread is a good idea for field/shop safety review. Ross.

Folks, Have the worst front rim patched. its far from perfect but the whole rim is not really very good lots of rust pits in the inside. i think it will be fine with a tube in the tire. Was trying to get these done to get the tires mounted Friday afternoon when I go to get my truck tires changed. Not sure I am going to make it.Just running out of energy! whipped! This was a challenge in metal work as the 4 inch long rim patch had to bend some in both directions. i got it close with a ball peen hammer.:) Mig welded the patch in place. Will try to get a picture up. Steve, I sure don't feel like I have accomplished much! Would like to get these tires on and the air cleaner removed and taken apart and clean the mesh out. Goal is to have this tractor ready to plow snow at daughters house within next month. interesting that the left side of the quadrant (lift side is completely worn smooth. Never seen on ore that bad. Wonder what this tractor did in its prior life to get that wore smooth? Regards, Chris

Folks, Worst Allis front rim with patch in place. Have to drill the hole for the valve stem. I think I am going to drill it in the patch since its probably the best material on the outer rim. I used .060 thick sheet for the repair. (Big thanks to Andy at Edinboro industries for the piece of steel!)
Repair is at the 6:00 position (bottom) in this shot.
Picture of the rusted section of the rim cut out. Repair is directly behind it. (smooth portion of rim!:)
Repair came out OK. My metal skills leave something to be desired. A vice and a large hammer are pretty crude to form this type of heavy metal. If i get ambitious I may get the other one repaired today. (I need to buck up a little anyway!) Then to the paint booth, for some silver on the rim and cream in the centers. I know a WD45 had P.O. colored wheels! Always someone that doesn't follow the rules! Regards, Chris

Folks, OK back to some serious WD questions! What is this white electrical item vertical by the distributor? My first guess was a ballast resistor? If so why? It has been converted to 12 volt alt. has a 12 volt coil. In my brain it should not need this? Headlights are not to be found? Any way this is on the list to go unless someone has a real good reason. Maybe was for 6 volt lights??? Maybe this old coil did not have a internal resistor or something.
Here is where I welded a washer to the steel plug at the thermometer port. then a hex nut. the heat loosened the joint and I turned this out with out damaging the fitting for the thermometer.
Lift arm is bent I have never seen this before! i have a good set of lift arms from the parts WD that I may swap over to here. will function as is but I just hate seeing stuff like that! Also have good straight step pan from the parts tractor. Good thing I didnt scrap that old WD frame and rear end yet! Both fenders have been crunched too. So if I feel foxy someday that's a project to get those looking good again. I think they can be saved. will just take some time in the body shop.
This grill may be able to be saved. The one I thought was close by fell through. I have seen and worked on worse. The scree can be changed on both sides and the bottom needs much attention. Of course the side with the alternator has been cut. Why do folks do that? I converted three WDs to alternators and never cut one of them. So that swooping flange would need to be added back on the left side. both lower grill corners have holes and tears. Of course some dents and surface pits. This came from another tractor. The deep gouge on the right side of the hood indicates that what every did that took out the entire grill too.
Regards, Chris

That is a ballast resistor, Chris. It's used when you have a 6 volt coil and a 12 volt system. No doubt the lights were removed since the lamps would have blown almost immediately. Theoretically you can put a ballast resistor on the lights, but you'd want to put one resistor on each light. Otherwise if one bulb burned out the other bulb would suddenly have extra voltage applied to it. Those resistors would have to be of substantial wattage also. It's best just to replace the bulbs with 12 volt ones.

Doug, I thought it might be a ballast resistor. But it has a 12 volt coil not 6? And the resistor seems to be hooked up? Where is Gearld J or Steve (B&B) when we need them? They love this stuff too! Anyway this will have to be looked at. Right now the tractor starts and runs fine. Has a amp meter which vibrates a little on start up. I haven't put a meter to anything on the tractor yet. Some days I wished I would have studied electrical instead of drafting!:) So this is on the list but down there a ways and doesn't seem to be affecting the tractor running. Battery must be charging some, because I have not had to charge it yet. Regards, Chris

Probably a 12 volt coil, but have the correct internal resistance. Remember the 1970's Mopar engines. They all required an external ballast resistor.

I'd just buy a new 12v coil with internal resister to help clean it all up a little.

Chris, I don't know what voltage that coil is. You can put an ohmmeter across the two terminals. If is measures under 2 ohms, you have a six volt coil. If it measures over 3 ohms you have a 12 volt coil. It's not a big deal. I'd bet that is a 6 volt coil. The previous owner wouldn't have bothered with the ballast resistor if it were a 12 volt coil. If it works, leave it as is. BTW, you can tell if the alternator is charging by measuring the battery voltage while the engine is running a bit above idle. It should measure around 14 volts. Edit: I think it says 12 volts, but under the 12v and I may be imagining, but I believe it also says "use with resistor." That makes it a 6 volt coil, regardless of how it is labeled.

Doug, Your probably right on the coil. I may buy a new coil as mentioned to clean that up.
exSW, Glad to find you here too. That is the iIH machine that did my back in! Allis machines seem to have a healing effect!
This 45 is just going to be a clean up and fix apparent things type project. Which should take me right up to snow season. I did get the other front wheel repaired, and took the rims and tires to get mounted with new tubes. have to finish painting the centers and then clean up the hubs. Brenda from Sandy Lake called and has all the parts except is looking for a used pulley delete cup. That will allow me to boost the economy and provide fodder for this 45 thread!:) Hope things are good in Orange land!

Claus, Folks TD6 as found on the farm: Had a lot of issues: Starts on gas then switch to diesel.
TD6 this fall: Improving the drive ways.
another shot, working on lights. This was a partial clean and paint with 80% staying with original patina:
another from back, again only portions cleaned, repaired, painted. Electrical up graded.
This has been a very interesting project. Everything is bigger and heavier! it weighs close to 12000 lb.
Here is one with the big rock guard off. grill was in bad shape. a little buffing on that too!:)

Very Beastly! Love the Red paint!
I recently bought a Deere 450C, something in the transmission broke after owning for a month. Now it's in my Uncle's shed, winter project. I understand what you are saying about bigger and heavier. My machine weighs 14,000 pounds before the 4 in 1 bucket. My tracks and under carriage are in good shape, I had loosed the tracks a little too much in this photo but corrected that before the transmission broke.

Claus, What keeps you up at this hour? That machine of yours is similar animal to mine. But your 4 way bucket makes it very useful. Hope you can get in and out of the transmission project with minimal cost and effort. These tend to be money and time time sponges! I got my 2 hours of sleep now about 2 hours up walking/ standing. Then we try it again.
Back to Orange. I did get the centers of the wheels painted cream. Actually Rustolem Antique White. I like that color, Looks like real "top milk" for you old dairy farmers out there!:) It may not be close to what Allis used on the D series tractors? But the wheels will look OK. So I need to clean and paint the hubs P.O. and the lug bolt to get the total effect. One hole is stripped out on one hub and there was a bolt in there. I may reuse that same bolt till I get a new hub ready. Have a spare hub, that I found in the vast warehouse, but need to look at it for wear in the bearing race seats. Yea I have a pictures but haven't got them loaded to computer from camera yet! Slackin!

Ok very exciting wheel pictures!
Patch at rusty valve stem area, on rim #2.
A little silver and cream on the repaired rims, with old tires mounted over new tubes. I think we are almost back in business. Not perfect by any means, but should make the old girl feel a little better with some lipstick on. :)
FYI total cost on these old rims/tires so far is about $30 each. Tubes
were 12.50 each and the blasting was $10 each. Labor to mount them, and some paint I had in
stock. The one tire is not real good, age cracked, but will have to due
for a while.
I would like to tackle that grill shell but don't think i will get to that this fall. Weather is getting colder. We will have a good frost tonight the temp is 35 up close to the house. Off to get some rest, you guys are working me pretty hard!:)

Folks, Just remembered that I need a clutch foot rest I believe I have one in the vast warehouse. Have to dig around in the Allis parts. One thing I am please with is how this 45 starts! Never a issue so far. Doesn't seem to smoke any, shifts good, no jumping out of third that I have found. got a real good seat, probably a replacement, but in good condition, seat shock works good. Some other things I need from Sandy Lake. - Battery box. ( i think the current battery is too big for Std box:() - Tool box, this one is there but not very good shape. - Good used quadrant - plastic quadrant slides - springs on control levers below quadrant. - rubber tips for levers - correct starter switch lever/ assembly - good used starter pull rod - good used PTO rod with knob - good used chain for snap coupler up to lever Sounds more and more like a restoration project! Yea it needs some detailing for sure! Regards, Chris
