Subject: WD45 Foot Pedal Clutch *fluid?*

When I was mowing on Sunday, I noticed that as the tractor warmed up, I saw some sort of liquid misting (and smoking) out of what I believe is the forward pedal clutch housing. It was leaking out of a bolt on the top of the back right side? Seems like maybe a filler bolt. I also notice that the foot pedal clutch housing has a drain plug on bottom.

There is no level dip stick.. and I can't really tell where to check if the fluid is leaking. Also, I'm confused because I thought the pedal clutch was a dry clutch?

Anyways, I would like to know how to check if there is fluid in there, if there is supposed to be, and what type? Please help!

The engine clutch (foot pedal) is a dry clutch. There is no drain plug under it. There is a cover on the front of the clutch housing that can be removed to inspect the clutch and I believe you can remove the bottom plate to get to the clutch. You may have a leaking rear engine oil seal. Oil on the clutch will make smoke.

Just out of curiousity, what is involved in replacing that seal?

Separate engine from bellhousing and remove clutch and flywheel. Remove top half from back of block and bottom half from rear main bearing. Reassemble.

the clutch can also be "oiled" from over filling your hydraulic oil and it escaping through the vent hole.
