Are all heads for WD's interchangeable?  I want to pick up a spare to rebuild in advance of overhauling the engine this fall.    I called a local salvage yard and they asked for the head casting number.  I cannot find one.  The head is 4" tall and the engine serial # is "WD350496PA".

Why is there never time to do it right the first time, but always time to go back and fix it?

WC's and WD's should all be the same I believe. I'm sure the WD45 head will bolt up too.

I'm presuming the 45 would have longer push rods (since the head is 4-1/2" tall). If so, and I were to get them also, would the 45 match bolt holes, water passages, etc.?

The push rods are the same the difference is in the rocker arm stands were it's bolted to head. You will need head bolts and studs from tall head and rocker set to use one.

I'm with "Good" on the WD45 head change, The push rods are the same in a WD and the WD45. One more thing you will need is the WD45 valve cover. Don

Osage,

Your 4" head is the same as the WD-45. The "tall" (4") head was introduced on WDs with ENGINE Ser. #WD289001. The WC and early WD "short" head is 3" tall. So.......your best bet is to buy a late WD or WD-45 head to match the one you have.
No need for different rocker stands or valve cover.

Thanks to all for the info. When it gets cooler, I'll get over the salvage yard and pick one out.
