Hey all, ive got a wd that I just put a new radiator, new water pump, new thermostat and thermostat housing in, and it still over heats. Thr top of the radiator gets hot so I am assuming the t-stat is opening correctly. When it starts to over heat you can still touch the bottom radiator hose, its not that hot. Other than that it starts right up easy and runs good. I am kind if out of ideas. Thanks |

| I can just let it sit there and run and it will over heat. Brand new gauge and I confirmed with an infrared temp gun. |

This. Take the radiator cap off and watch for bubbles in the coolant while the engine is warming up. |

| I ran it with the cap off the other day and watched it I didnt see anything really until it started get warmed up, but that was prolly around the temp the stat opened, and it wasn't bubbles, just the level fluctuated a little bit. No I didn't flush the block wasn't sure how to go about it. Any way to check the flow of the water pump? |

I changed out a rotten leaky radiator with brand new one out of box and 45 overheated, since that was the onlly change I made, I suspected something with radiator. radiator shop was skeptical since radiator was brand new. when they called me to come and pick up radiator they handed me a ball of solder about the size of golf ball that was stuck in bottom of radiator, I think they had to unsolder bottom to get it out. that was 15 or 20 years ago and only problem I had.

after running the engine how long does it take for coolant to come out? At the point you have coolant coming out check the temperature with your inferred temp. gun. upper and lower hoses and engine block and head. the other thing that you must consider is that there is no overflow/recovery tank on older tractors. the top of the radiator was designed to hold the expanded coolant, so if you fill the radiator full it will keep overflowing. fill it up about 1" to 1.5" below the neck of the radiator. dan ------------- D19 Diesel,D17 Diesel SER.3 2-D14, 2-D15 SER.II WF/NF D15 SER.2 DIESEL D12 SER.I, D10 Ser.II 2-720'S D21 Ser. Did this tractor begin to overheat all of a sudden, or has it gotten worse over several years? If all of a sudden, then compression leak from a cracked head/leaking gasket. | Haven't had the tractor that long, had a busted up radiator when I got it that leaked real bad,so I couldn't even get it hot before, that is why it has a new one . then I checked the thermostat when it overheated and it didn't even have one, so I put one in. Then came the water pump |

| If the previous owner removed the thermostat it's probably because he had overheating problems. Can you pressure test the cooling system? |

| I don't have a pressure tester,but I will get one . the thermostat was marked which way it went, pretty sure I got it in right. Might have to pull it apart and check. I think I also need to check the radiator, maybe its just not flowing, bad core in the new one maybe. |

| Where has the radiator been stored? Mice have a habit of nesting in the tanks. Take the lower radiator hose off and see how fast water runs through. Air lock? Doubt it but something to check. |

Pull the thermostat put the housing on with out the hose start it up and let the water fly this will tell you if pump is pumping we had a new pump that the impeller was not thght as the cast impeller warmed up it got worse drove me nut (short ride) ------------- You can wash the dirt off the body but you can’t wash the farmer out of the heart and soul |

| I think I got it figured out. I went to drain the radiator and nothing came out, I thought that's strange. So I pulled the petcock all the way out and still nothing so I dumped a whole gallon of coolant in and all it did was dribble out. I had to take the radiator complete out after over an hour and dump tje rest out of the filler. So guess ill get it to the radiator shop and see what's up. |
