When I got on the B this spring for the first time in 2 years I noticed the left brake wasn't working and "felt" funny. I got a chance to pull the cover off tonight and found no back fulcrum pin. I drove a 1/2 bolt through the hole and a small piece fell on the ground(never to be seen again till I hit it with the mower). I then line the band up with the hole and drove my bolt in place. It seemed to make the brake work but I wanted to adjust it up some. Are you supposed to have to remove the Brake lever to access the adjusting nut? Is the brake lever threaded in to the brake toggle? Is the brake band spring supposed to be under the adjusting nut or on top? The IT manual looks like it is on top the nut but I can't tell. I found it almost impossible to adjust the brakes up with the handle in the way. And last what size is the fulcrum pin supposed to be? 9/16 by 4.5 maybe? Thanks for any answers.

You must have hand brakes, Yes the pull handle is threaded, and can be removed to adjust the brakes. The spring fits around the nut, not under it. On the later models, the adjusting was changed to a slotted screw with a large head to hold the spring. Bob

Well I found the pin(not just a piece) before I mowed over it. It was all there just must have slid out from vibration. I bet not too many have had their brake pins fall out.

You're very lucky. Mine were a bear to get out. For me it was the worst part of the brake job, followed closely by digging all the crud out of the housing before slipping the new brake bands back in.
