I have a newly rebuilt B starter I acquired in a deal.  Unfortunately, it has the stud for power--not the mechanical switch.  Can I modify this stud somehow to make it work with the mechanical switch?  I don't really want to set it up for electric start.

Being a starter is electric start.

I think you mean a Solenoid.

You can switch the threaded stud with the solid stud for the starter switch.

As Dick mentioned, you can change the stud over to the pad style for the switch, but actually, the Starter with stud working with a Starter relay actually works much better than the old style switches which once worn, causes starting issues. You can hide the relay in the tool box, and run the cable out the side hole where it normally would exit to the Starter motor. Your choice...
