I recently purchased a slipper type clutch, PTO adapter for my 1944 Allis Chalmers B. This mechanism coverts the PTO shaft from 1-1/8" to 1-3/16" and has a built in clutch that engages when I press the foot clutch so that the Bush Hog doesn't keep pushing the tractor forward. The only problem is the hole in the B's PTO shaft is 3/16" while the pin size for the adapter is 5/16". Does anyone make an adapter that uses a 3/16" pin or do I simply drill out the hole in the B's shaft to accept the larger 5/16" pin?

Just use the bolt that fits the PTO shaft. It only holds the devise on the shaft, the splines do the hard work. Bob

i agree.. your adaptor goes from 1-1/8 to 1-3/8 inch splines. the pin just holds in on. if a 3/16 pin is all you can get in, thats o.k. i have seen cotter pins used on some tractors. dont have to be a roll pin or bolt.

Use the smaller bolt that fits the tractor PTO shaft. Just make sure your telescoping driven shaft slides freely front to back.

Agree - the extra room in the adaptor hole will only add (maybe) some extra telescoping action which is not an issue. The pin only makes sure that the adaptor won't slide off - the splines do all the work to drive the implement.

Thanks for all of the replies, I never thought about using a pin that would fit the PTO shaft. That's why this site is the best!
