Has anyone ever seen or come across a Allis Chalmers Model 75 Cable Control Unit ( winch) /

I'm told it was a two drum winch. Is it very rare or impossible to find altogether?

Couldn't find anything on the forum search.

Thank you.

How the heck did you find that so fast?? I used every description and could only come up with some Carco units. Thank you.

Were they considered a solid unit with good pulling power?

If I find a cost I can live with I was looking at a cargo G80 unit.

that picture is from a salvage yard i have bought parts from and i knew exactly where to look.  I couldnt say how they were thought of.  mine is still working and has quite a bit of wear but i am much younger than the dozer and wasnt around during the hayday

I know nothing about winches but spend time on antique cat sites. I am assuming so you know what it is worth.

That winch was designed for controlling a scraper or dozer blade, not made for dragging things around. So will not have near the pull of the winches used for logging and such. So if similar to winches used on Cats will not stand up to pulling things regular.

you are comparing 2 completely different things.
Allis Chalmers model 75 is a rear double drum cable control unit; designed for operating towed scrapers, or a front blade
Carco G80 is a logging winch designed for logging and heavy duty winching jobs.

Thank you very much. You are correct. I am looking for a pulling or towing winch. I have heard good things about the Carco units.

thank you for the thoughts. Great forum and looking forward to being able to contribute at some point and not just pulling information.

Your looking for something like these...

This one is for a TD18 IH.  might have to fabricate the drive for it... and possibly the mounts. $1400 bucks...

another ad says "

This one is a might spendy, 7500 bucks

The winches are out there, but anything construction is spendy...
Here was a 7 with a Hyster D7N winch...  very stout.

Thank you JC(wi)

You are right. I like the Carco G80 and or the G4. Not sure the difference between the two but either one will be a spend. Im not much of a fabricator so other than bolting on and doing routine oil change, pins, bushings and such, I would have to reach out to get an adapter plate set up.

Thank you.

General Gear
http://www.tractarparts.com" rel="nofollow - http://www.tractorparts.com
has allis machines for salvage.  should be some of those winches available that wouldnt require modifications.  but its located in idaho.  thats where the model 75 pic is from.

Great and thank you for the lead.

If i can get the 16 delivered, I am clearing out 30 acres of fence rows and a winch would come in handy.

THESE TRACTORS AND WINCHES ARE OLD. THE DEMAND IS LOW. I BELIEVE YOU CAN BYE A CARGO 80 WINCH FOR AROUND 800 DOLLARS OR MABY LESS IF YOU LOOK AROUND AND ARE NOT IN A HURRY. THE 16 IS A GOOD TRACTOR AND THE CARGO 80 IS AGOOD WINCH. GOOD LUCK.

make sure you get a winch with a pto shaft that came off a HD16
Winch stud patterns and pto shafts are different with each tractor manufacturer.
You only need a sliding gear winch not a powershift one for a HD16DC because you interrupt the PTO shaft with the master clutch.
G4 and G80SG are sliding gear.
G80PS is powershift; if you get one of those make sure you get the winch pump with it.
Needs this to operate

I did not know that Merv. I will reach out when I see what I can find and how much my wallet will afford me. Curious if there is a preferred model of Carco winch for a HD16DC as an example. I have heard G4, G80, G80ps. Not sure which one I should focus on when doing my searches.

Might try Thill Track and Tractor in Eau Clare WI  - they had a lot of parts set aside in sheds
