I need to do a lot of work on the springs and pads on a 20' L flex head. Is there a safe way to sit it on its back (side facing the combine) so I don't have to work under it all the time? I have a forklift and a large loader, so I know it could be done, I was just hoping for some words of experience on it before I break something (on it or me!) thanks in advance.

can't answer that...on my F2 I put jack stands under header frame just fwd of throat and ease it down for solid footing,then use the creeper....
helps to have concrete

I've put my IH corn heads on their backs a lot to work on them. I've never had to do it with a AC header, but I still never crawl under a header to work on them when still ona machine no matter what brand. I have a couple old short fat combine front rims that I always rolled under a header before me sliding under one. they were combine shipping wheels. got them for nothing at a dealer as they can't be used for field operations. they are still very stout. try to tip it up, if it's unsteady, don't did to that way! can also use those heavy landscape timbers and rack them.

I don't know why, but squatting and working on things over my head or even lying down and working above me is very painful for me. I like the rim idea. I have several spare rims of different sizes, if I let it down on a pair it might let it down gently... I've got to get ready to pick corn before I worry about bean heads but trying to get my head wrapped around it first. Thanks!

Go find someone who has one of those fancy header trailers that is designed to haul two headers, and still be under legal width. Them trailers put the header on its back for you. Obviously, it would have to stay on the trailer all while you did the work on the header, so it might be tough to find someone to surrender their trailer for that long. Go to a dealer, and tell em you want to try one out. Then when you get done, take it back and tell em that you decided you didn't want to buy it. LOL! Darrel
