A now departed friend who was an A-C industrial dealer told me that A-C flew all the dealers to a meeting to announce that they were not going to put oil bath brakes and steering clutches in the 600 series crawlers. He said that for that cost of flying the dealers to the meeting A-C could have converted to oil bath. The only week point of great little crawlers. So much for corporate management.

How do they compare to a 500 IH performance wise?

It's a say 50 HP machine made for light work, commercial industrial and farm use - not a construction machine . I had a HD4 along with my HD5G - both loader machines - while the 4 was faster with the shuttle clutch the 5 would outwork the 4 in heavy use - also the 2-71 was a fuel squeezer compared to the 2200 engine

I owned an IHC 500E for a dozen years and now have a 650 series loader, the AC is a much heaver, slightly more powerful machine. Final drives were a real problem for my 500, with the power steering (hydraulic steering), the 500 was a bit quicker in turning but otherwise, the AC has it beat. A small machine but a tough one!
