I'm about ready to start putting my tractor back together and have a ? about the clutch disc.. sn21596.. upon tearing it down it has the round disc in it... my other d17 my (grandfathers) has a 4 pad disc in it.. is one better than the other.. which is the correct one.. I'll try to get some pic's posted of my progress.. long going but i think I see a small light at the end of the tunnel..kevin

Not sure where the serial number break is, but the four pad metalic disc will take more heat. It will also still pull when it cools if you do overheat it, also will hold better if it get some oil on it form a rear seal or front input seal. The four pad disc should also have a nine spring pressure plate insted of the older six.
Hope this helps

Round disc was probably a fiber disc, while the 4 pad was ceramic. As stated by gcalent, the 4 pad will take more heat and oil , but its alot harder on the flywheel.
