Get yourself an MSD 8491 tachometer adapter from any auto parts store.  It'll fit into that hollow drive piece, and it has a pin that goes into the slot.  Your square tach cable will slide into the square hole in the 8491 adaptor.  I put one in my D17 a few weeks ago.  About 20 bucks.  The cable was cheaper.
