The transmission seems to be turning so I am thinking that the power director is slipping , is there anything I can try before I send it to a shop to fix it? Thanks in advance

check the pressure on the pd clutch pacs - make sure the linkage is shifting the valve all the way in and out both ways and that you do have oil in the PD side...

While what the others have suggested is a likely cause, your statement is throwing me off.  If the transmission is turning, the pd would not be slipping.  Have you verified the transmisison is turning other than in neutral.  how do you know?

As far as being able to tell if the transmission is turning, when you shift it you can feel the gears turning. No the pins haven't come out of the linkage! Maybe the clutch went out of it? At this point all I know is that it will only move on level ground and I can walk faster than it will move!

Put the trans in gear engage the pto let the main clutch out and have someone watch the pto  if pto doesn't turn your main clutch is slipping. If pto turns the PD is slipping.
