Well I got the C/b running pretty good so I turned my attention to one of the WD's. I tore the mag apart and cleaned it up. Drained the old gas and changed the oil. I pulled the valve cover off to find a recently overhauled head. New valves, locks and freeze plugs from what I can tell. I cranked her up and she fired right up. However, I let it run about thirty seconds and do not have any oil pressure to the valve train. I also pulled the oil filter and have no oil there either.
What is the best way to prime a WD oil pump? Is it common for oil pump shafts to break or some other type of oil pump failure on a wd? Hoping I don't have to drop the pan. If I do, no biggie. I have plenty of parts around to fix her up. Thanks, Jesse.

I found someone did not tighten a compression fitting once when head was overhauled

| Did you put oil back in it? LOL. Don't want to ruin your day but I bought a running '48 WD years ago with no oil pressure gauge. Got it home, changed oil (nasty) and put on a gauge, no pressure. Found the oil pump locked up and stripped the teeth off the cam. Hope your luck is better than mine. |

What I did on the WD that I got that was tight was I took off the oil filter and took the small tube off of where the oil comes out and then filled up the tube hole with oil from a squirt oil can until no more would go down. I then cranked it over with the starter but with the ignition off so it wouldn't start unti some started to squirt back. I then reassembled the oil filter and cranked it until I had oil up in the valve train. Once I had oil pressure on the gauge and oil in the valvetrain, I then started it up. I don't know if that method will work for you but it did work for me. |

Pankey. You sir are a genius. Maybe even a rocket scientist. No one speaks the obvious more than you. Thanks for your sharing your vast knowledge with us.
Chuck, I thought I would pump some oil down there and see if that works. If not I will tear it down and see what is going on. I do not know the history of this tractor. Maybe this is way it was abandoned. Sure sounded like it ran good when it popped off. But it only ran a little bit before I shut her down. Hopefully it is a good one still.

| Something else simple you might check, I have seen the little oil lines get blockages in them after setting for a long time. You might take them off and blow through them to check. Also, make sure that you are using a gauge that you know works. I have ran into bad gauges before also. |
