I was wondering if everyone had any issues with the new Allis Chalmers temperature gauges.  I have D10 Series II and I-400 and replaced both tractors with the new Allis Chalmers temperature gauge and experiencing the same problem in both tractors when I engage the PTO and the tractor is running at ¾ to full speed the temperature gauge is measuring around 220 however I did not think the engine was overheating so I took Inferred Laser Thermometer gun and came back at about 160.  So I wondering if everyone was experience this kind of problem with Allis Chalmers Temperature gauge?  The gauge can be used in I-400, D10, D12, D14, D15, and D17.  I was thinking maybe the gauge in not calibrated correctly?  I’m thinking I installed the gauge correctly but maybe not.  Any thoughts?

Thanks,

John

Infared heat guns are notoriously inaccurate.  Every summer I am tortured by heat guns.  I would trust the gage first.

Creek

Cheek,
If the Laser gun says 160 and 160 is the correct running temp than the gauge is incorrect.  I also checked different parts of the engine with the gun and was temp was the same at 160 not 220.  I don't understand how the gauge is reading 220?  It's almost 60 degree difference?  I can't believe I'm the only one who experience this problem?

Thanks,
John

I was wondering if anyone have any thoughts on my temperature Gauge issue?

I have used a meat thermometer placed in the filler neck hole.
Remember the gauge is sensing next to an exhaust port and will show warmer than in the filler neck.
The late 149-160 heads were tapped at the thermostat housing for temperature sensor.

I would call whoever you bought them from and see what they have to say.
