Just got the generator back from rebuild and i put back on but doesnt seem to put out 14 to 15volts.Cant you measure the output of genny with a digital meter and should it be around 15 volts ,thanks for any help.The amp meter shows charging when i put the lights on.

You SHOULD be able to get good indication from a digital...
With engine off, measure voltage at the battery.
Start the engine, measure voltage at idle...
Then measure voltage with throttle up about half way.
you SHOULD see a rise in voltage, either from off to running, or from off to throttled up.
If it isn't playing ball, I would look to the regulator- sounds like it may not be pulling in.
For what it's worth- my 17's got the opposite problem... it runs full-snot field voltage at every speed, so gotta keep it idled down so's it doesn't overcharge. The REAL problem, however, is that the owner is somewhat mysteriously lacking in round tuits.

Round tuits? Hey, that's my excuse. Get your own LOL. Generator regulators are a little finicky when it comes to setting the voltage. You need to start with a good, FULLY charged battery. A weak or discharged battery just won't cooperate. A fresh, fully charged 12V battery will be 13.2V. On a tractor that doesn't see much usage, I would probably set the regulator near but not over 15V. A daily working machine I would not go over 14V.

On an aside note... I've found that a few 'modern' options have popped into availability as replacements for the 'generator cutout' that was originally used on Model A Fords.
I'm wondering if anyone's made an electronic regulator that fits inside an original mechanical reg case... or better yet, found an off-the-shelf regulator unit that could be stuffed in the mechanical unit's case... ??
