I could not decide which forum to post this, so if this is the wrong place, just let me know.  I bought a farm last year that the county agent now says has a corn and wheat base in the DCP cropland program, and wants to know if I want to sign up.

She made it sound like free money, but what is the catch?  I am just using it for hay and pasture, so should I do sign up?

Thanks,
Roscoe.

I accept the DCP payment for the 90 acres I row crop farm and have had no problems with the FSA. The folks in my FSA office are very helpful and patient. According to the information I have the sign up period for DCP program has ended for 2010 but you can check with them. Hope this helps, good luck.

You are subject to having your crop soil conservation and tillage plans approved by the Soil Conservation service in order to enroll.  You are also subject to inspection audits as well.   That's what I had to do with my FSA office.  I'm still following the same rotation plan I set up in 1996 and they have never inspected my farm that I am aware of though. My neighbor got into trouble because of an inspection. He chisel plowed in the fall and disced before planting but didn't leave enough trash on top to suite the inspector.I don't know what if anything it cost him, but he no longer chisels about half of that property because of the sidehill and light soil.
