The C/B project has a cracked block. Do they typically crack all the way through? Will water get in the oil from the crack? I may weld it up and hope for the best. I know I have saw others comment about cracked blocks in the past. Looking for some advice on what to do. I really do not want to pull the engine. I do not have time for that type of project.

I mainly deal with junk. Even the heads that dont leak by the time I port them to the point I am after usually do . Like most cylinder head porters working on cast iron I have come to appreciate Belzona 111 supermetal . http://www.belzona.com/assets/PDFs/XXII_13.pdf - http://www.belzona.com/assets/PDFs/XXII_13.pdf

The crack is behind the generator and carb.

What planky said, bolt a metal patch over the crack, learn how to stitch the crack or you could weld it. If I was to weld it I would have it TIG welded using cast iron as a filler. You can TIG weld it without preheating as long as you go slow enough that an inch away from the weld you are always able to touch with your finger without getting burned. Weld and wait then weld and wait.

The thing about this is someone already tried to repair it and did a horrible job. I wish people would take a little pride in the work they do. I will fix it up and see how it goes.
