Hello All! My name is Jason and I am new to the Allis Chalmers world! I have been around farm equipment my whole life, but we never had any equipment from Allis. I was able to find a good deal on a B in Dickson TN, so I went a head and purchased. Basically the only thing it needs is a carb rebuild and that I can do myself. My question today is how hard is it to find a belly mounted sickle mower? I have one today on my IH Cub Low-Boy, but I would rather find one for this tractor and use that tractor for other things. Does anyone know where one can be found? Thanks! Jason |

| They are pretty common and most times can be found anywhere from Free to the 500 dollar range. There are auctally 2 different models out there (that are both very similar), and I have also seen (owned) 2 mowers of the same model that had many different modifications. One was set up for a hand lift only, and I imagine it was an earlier production mower. The later ones were set up for both hand and hydraulic lift with the addition of a few extra parts. They are GREAT mowers. They came in both 5 and 6 foot lengths. |

Well you would be surprised. Allis equipment is not as common down here in TN as it was up north. I would see a ton of Allis stuff when I lived in MN. Here in TN it was all pull behind mowers and the bigger the better. In any event someone has already sent me a private message here, and I think I may have found one. Jason |

First, congratulations on obtaining my favorate Allis Chalmers Tractor, the B. You will find it is a very dependable unit that is a lot of fun to operate.
Evidently you have experience with a sickle bar mower but let me remind you that a sickle bar mower requires a lot of maintenance - guards, ledger plates, hold down clips, inside and outside shoe runners, pitman rods, pitman housing, etc, etc, etc.
If you are not going to cut had for bailing or feeding to cattle take careful consideration of a rotary mower.
In any event take good care of my favorate.

Yea I grew up around sickle mowers so I do understand the work they require. I already have a woods L59 on another tractor, but what I wanted this for was a section behind my pond, and going around my pond. Much easier then getting too close and going into the drink. Thanks for the welcome! I think us tractor folks are some of the best people on earth. |
