I am about to buy an Allis D17 with a trip style loader with minimum hydraulics to lift boom.

Does anyone know if it is possible to convert it into a full hydraulic loader with down presure?

Anythings possible,Hell they put a man on the moon! At great expense I might add.A seperate hyd. pump and oil tank would need to be installed for down pressure.I have seen front mounted units that connect to front of crankshaft/pulley.Also have seen pumps mounted to fan belt like an alternator.Have also seen rear mounted PTO pumps.A control box could be constucted to use existing hyd. but would be so slow I don't think it would be practical

It would be cheaper to buy a tractor set up how you want than to convert one, esp if you need all those things in pats response.

If you want 2 way hydraulics on the loader you would have to replace the lift cylinders with 2 way cyl. and buy a cylinder and have it mounted properly to the bucket. Then you would need a double valve to control lift and dump and plumb it all in. If you take into consideration the pressure and flow rate of the tractor when buying cylinders, you could have a usable setup without being too slow. If you put just any 4 inch cylinder on it you will run out of hydraulic fluid before the loader is up all the way and it will take twice as long to get half as far up.
