So, I've been checking out the owners registry: http://www.allischalmers.com/registry/registry_list.asp - http://www.allischalmers.com/registry/registry_list.asp on WD45's especially, having just got one. I added mine, and looked the list over to see if there were any others with consecutive numbers as mine. Didn't find any.
However, I did notice that there are at least 10 separate people with tractor number 208663 listed. I can't imagine that this tractor has got around this much. Is there a casting number that people are mistaking for the serial number with this number?
I just found this strange, and was wondering what was going on.

Is there a casting # that matches that, possibly they are looking at the wrong #.

There probably is one person out there with that serial # but I just looked at my WD45 and that is the casting # on the front side of the shift tower, so that's what the rest are looking at. They probably heard that a lot of Allis's have the serial in front of the shifter.

Well there we go, mystery solved! I noticed that there are some 208668's too. I suppose people misread the last 3 as an 8.
