So this spring I brought my great-granddad's 60A All-Crop back to life. Now I'd like to do that same to his JD PTO driven binder. It's either a 10' or 12', I can't remember. My question is, has anyone ever worked around one much? I know nothing about binders. I know my combines like the back of my hand, but binders are alien to me. I have no idea how the knotter part works. I see all the parts where the bundle is tied, and I feel more confused. I would think they would be pretty simple. However, unlike the combine, something tells me this binder may be froze up. Will have to work on it some and see.

Also, there's All-Crops all over the place, so parts are plentiful, but I almost never see binders. Is there any place to still get parts? Surely JD still wouldn't have them, but you never know I guess.

One of the members of our local antique club has and still uses a JD binder. If memory serves me correct the knotter is similar to the ones still used on balers, you should be able to find a name stamped in the knotter to tell you what kind. From talking to him he mentions getting some odd parts in Amish country as they still use these binder and reproduce some parts.

The knotter is very similar to what is on modern balers just lighter duty. As for parts I do not know where to send you. Parts Depot is where I have found some in the past but what they still have is a ? All of the wood work can be easily done and I have made canvases for them before. The one I run is a little earlier than yours. It was built in either 1916 or 1917. The parts catalog number for the tractor binder is PCW4. If you goto JDparts.com and click on Previous Parts Catalog and click on Catalog Number Search and the top and type in W4 in the search box it will bring up a PDF of the parts catalog for you binder. I was going to post a couple of pictures of mine but the file size is to large and I am not going to resize them now.

B.W. McNair has always had what I needed for my IHC and they also have JD binder parts.
