Our main combine, (my grandpa's Gleaner K), this weekend shelling corn. One of the only K's used around us, and one of the few Gleaners; lots of red and green ones, these days. Back in the day everyone around had a Gleaner, the AC dealership right down the road had a lot to do with that. Hope you all enjoy!

Sweet! You're not a whole lot older than I, so it's nice to see more young'uns on here! It's a great looking combine and since it's your grandpa's, it makes it that much better!
Same here...everyone in Oklahoma had an Allis or Gleaner pull type, and later Gleaner self propelled. You won't find many Duetz Gleaners and even fewer AGCO Gleaners. Allis dealer support was great until the 70s.

Where are you from in OK? I was in Oklahoma City and Shawnee a couple of weeks ago, ferrying a Cessna back that a friend of mine bought in Shawnee, (I flew airline into OKC). Good to see someone around my age on here. We gotta keep this stuff alive!
It seems that the same thing going on in your area was going on in ours. Our dealer, (10 miles or less from our farm), went out around 1980 or so - I know this because our 185 was bought new there in 1979, this K was bought new there in 1976, I believe, and a friend of ours has a 7000 that was bought there in the same time. Our neighbor bought a new K2 diesel (we now own it, too), in 1981 and had to go to a different dealer because the local one was gone at that time. Our closes Agco/Gleaner dealer is an hour away, now.
Same here with the new ones as well. I can only think of one "big-time" farmer in our county who uses a Gleaner, a friend of mine that farms 1,000+ acres a year, he just bought a new Gleaner last year, and the next county over theres a couple of farms still using Gleaner. Nothing like before, though.

Even when I was a kid, I remember a lot more farmers using Gleaners; the guys around us used K, F, L and M series, (mostly 2's and 3's in my memory), for a long time. But most of those guys have retired now and the new guys aren't going Gleaner, anymore.

Ours used to have a spreader, it's been taken off for years now. We also have a straw chopper, but it's off, as well. They're great combines. We have this K, and two more K's that we don't really use, (one is a parts combine), and a K2 diesel. This one is the nicest of them all and the one we use the most. Thank goodness my grandpa took good care of it and kept it parked inside.

Yes sir, Denby Huff was the dealer.. His father, Dr. C Huff, (That was the name of the dealership when it was in operation, the "Dr. C Huff Company"), was a great friend of my grandfather and was a veterinarian, as well. Denby and my grandpa were the same age. Denby was a fascinating fellow; his knowledge of Allis Chalmers was encyclopedic. He worked on them for years after the dealership closed. Sadly, he passed away around probably 5 or 6 years ago. He was also a private-pilot, he had a Piper Twin Comanche for a while, (I think he got out of flying when he crashed it on takeoff one day).
Where are you located? We are close to where the dealership was, probably 10 miles or less from the dealership; just a few miles from downtown Sunfish, home of the SUNFISH MALL. Sadly, the Sunfish Mall was burned down by some kids or something just a few nights ago, on Halloween.
Did you know Denby when he was at the dealership or later?

We have several gleaners running around our area, still out numbered by red and green but it's nice to see a galvanized beauty working hard. We are fortunate for agco support our dealer is 15 minutes away!

I met him around 2001 or so when I was looking for a tricycle front for our D-14 we plowed tobacco with. He had one from a D-15. Bruce at Big Clifty tractor told me about him. He was a real genuine fellow. We hit it off really well. He would call my cell phone and say is this Ben & Elmers? and then laugh. You know as do others from around here that was the dealer in Glasgow and Horse Cave that closed up 5 or 6 years ago I guess. The more questions you asked him about these old tractors the wider he'd smile and he knew the answer.

Haha I can hear him now! Yes, I knew about Ben and Elmer; we bought a new discbine from them back in the day, an NH 411. I used to say that Denby forgot more about these old AC's than most of us will ever learn.
Big Cliftt is just a shadow, anymore. We bought a D17 IV from Bruce several years ago, but it don't seem like they're selling hardly anything from the looks of their yard, these days.
Ole Denby fixed a lot of things for us. Our Deutz Allis 6260 was in the dealership shop at Glasgow twice because the PTO kept going out.. Took it to Denby and he fixed it and it's not gave us any problem since.
Only thing I had against Denby was that he got two D21's on different occasions, and sold them both to somebody else ahead of us. Haha

Good stuff. Yeah Bruce and AGCO parted way because they wanted him to spend several thousand dollars to update-modernize or something. He still sells the parts as of now but no new tractors! I bought a new rake from him a couple years ago cause I like him and John and he had the best price of course.

I think he does still sell parts, though not 100% sure. It got to where most anything we needed he had to order it, so we just started ordering our parts from North Star. They ship them straight to us and have about anything we need on hand to send the next day. And we don't have to make any trips.
Bruce and John are good fellas. I hope they're doing well up there.
