Some on here may have seen my references to a good friend with whom I work on tractors, make and sell hay, go tractor pulling, and.... Lee is an old-time Yankee farmer who also happens to be an ace mechanic, a great mentor, and a real friend. Together we have put up thousands of bales of hay, rehabbed a barn full of tractors, and shared many great experiences on a daily basis. He showed me how to set a carb, do a valve job, adjust the knotters on the baler, rebuild a CA tranny - the list is endless. And he did all this as a friend. The one thing he never did was spend time on the Forum - he was not comfortable with computers, so I was the one who searched out parts and ideas on here. Together we were a team.
I woke up to learn that Lee had died during the night. He was only 68, and we always figured (assumed?) we'd have years to go haying, tractor pulling, etc. It's not always so, and the world this morning is a different place.

Dave Sorry to hear of your lose.Be thankful you had a good friend like him and you were able to spend time doing things you both loved doing.I am sure you made his life far more enjyable as well

Dave, Sorry to hear. Many of us have friends - but those "special close friends" are hard to come by. I'm sure he will be missed, but you had some great experiences together.

Dave, Through my lifetime I have lost many friends, high school mates, Army buddies, customers, and very dear friends. It is never easy.
Please accept my sincere condolances on your loss.

Sorry to hear the news. Please accept my condolences.
I lost my "tractor buddy" seven yrs ago, he was 72 and we thought we would be rebuilding a forge blower on the weekend. But, when I go, I would love it to be that quick. I'm sure you won't ever forget him.

Thanks for all the thoughts, guys. Spent the evening with his son and son-in-law plotting haying the first field of the season. I was able to remember how to attach the Kuhn mower to the tractor, showed the guys the twine stash and showed them how to thread the baler. I think we can pull it off with the three of us and some help from another fellow who's offered to share-crop some of the fields. We'll see.

Thanks for the vote of confidance! We've got 250 acres of hay fields ahead of us - I know we will learn more than we can imagine now. Unfortunately I will have to take 6 weeks off from real work after some back surgery, but maybe I can keep everyone coordinated!

So sorry to hear this Dave. I will be praying for all of you. May God's love fill the void and lead and guide all of you through this first haying season. Also will be praying that your back surgery goes well. Just remember to really take it easy and don't go against doctors orders untill the surgery has completely healed. God Bless.
