I recently purchased an Allis Chalmers 190 to resale and I didnt give it much thought to look under the hood to see if there was a turbo, I just did the normal stuff check oil and etc. Anyway when I look up the serial number, 10727, it tells me its a 1966. The decals say 190, and the serial number reads 190 10727. But according to Norms book that serial number falls under the 190 xt with the bar grill. This tractor has no bar grill though. When I look up the number under tractor data it doesnt separate the 190 from the XT. It still lists it as a 190. Anyway I am totally confused. Can you guys enlighten me a bit on the 190 serial numbers.   |

I think 190 xt serial number had xt in the serial number, 190s no turbo, some other differences but someone else will elaborate. ------------- 1945 C, 1949 WF and WD, 1981 185, 1982 8030, unknown D14(nonrunner) |

I'm sure the serial numbers all ran together. For example 10,727 could be a 190 and 10,728 could be an XT. However, the XT all had either XT (gas tractor) at the end of the serial number or XTD for a diesel. |

the 190 (Gas and Diesel) series had their own run of serial numbers The 190 XT (Gas and Diesel) had their own run of numbers you can have the same serial of say 9000 but only the ending characters will tell you more ------------- Charlie '48 B, '51 CA, '56 WD45 '61 D17, '63 D12, '65 D10 , '68 One-Ninety XTD |

| There should be a metal tag riveted to the block near the engine oil fill tube. A 190 has a G-2500 or D-2800 engine. The 190 XT would have a G-2800 or D-2900 engine. With the paint job (hood decal), grille and chopped fenders, it's hard to tell what engine it might have. Might be a combine engine transplant. |

I ran into a an issue decoding my 190xtd. I found differences from my engine verses my brothers 190xtd even thou they were only 4 series numbers apart. After noticing the head had a rear water jacket plate, I also found when I pulled the injectors to have them rebuilt, I also found brass sleeves in the injector ports. My understanding is that came availible in the 7000 series engines. Injector tips coded as out of a 7010. So, I am guessing that I have a transplanted 301 out of a 7010 tractor. Engine seriel number is in the 85,000 range. Still runs a 190 xtd injector pump. Whom ever did the transplant timed it incorrectly to 18 degrees btdc, the xt pump does not advance 10 degrees. I changed the timing to 26 btdc and it ran and started much better. Yes, that is an XT as the engine has the oil cooler and oil lines going up to the turbo. Nameplate on the left side should say model 2900. The decals do not indicate XT because those are not correct decals (look homemade to me). Thanks for the info. The serial number on the side reads 190 10727, so after some great input from you guys I actually looked and there is a turbo, just like yall said. I guess thats what I get for assuming, right? So its a 190 with a 190 xt motor. Mystery solved. And again thanks |

The 190 tractors with cab's came with muffler's to deaden engine exhaust from ringing thru the cab. | All One-Ninety's had a muffler of some sort. Older ones had muffler under the hood. Late models were above the hood. No One-Ninety XT diesels ever had a muffler, period. Many got a 200 muffler added on, but the XT diesels never had one from the factory. |
