Hi Guys: Came across a Big 10 Allis Garden Tractor, guy shows me high / low range on the machine which is under the seat platform. What was the advantage of this option and how did it work?

He said it was disconnected and did not work, would someone kindly educate me on this option for this machine.

Having the low range would be used for running a tiller.
