One of our suppliers (Cross Manufacturing) has had some major changes in the last few months.
#1 Duane Cross passed away, and his children have assumed ownership of the company
#2 Long-time management has been let-go.  New management brought in.
#3 Many products were immediately deleted.  All quick style hitch, and 4 bump rims
#4 Some things would no longer be shipped by UPS.
#5 Several employees have been replaced, including welders and painters.

So....
Historically, Cross increases prices in December/January (without notice sometimes).  I expect a significant increase this time around.  I cannot be certain, but I fully expect as much as 10% on some items.
Quality control should be at a high point right now.  New employees and close oversight of management in this case should yield a better product.
Additionally, UPS takes a price hike either right before Christmas shipping season, or at the 1st of the year.
All that to say, now is a good time if you are considering a hitch in the next few months.  I put most of the $15 off on our website, or you are welcomed to call in your order.  I usually run them on sale late in the year around Christmas, but I'm concerned the price increase will go into place earlier this year.

Thanks for the news Jim. It's amazing how things get turned on their ear when children take over a business. Seems to me they should leave things for a little while and see where the issues are, then address them.

Like said before, the best way to lose money in farming is to do it grandpa's way. The best way to lose everything in farming is to forget grandpa's way. Seems that would be the case in every business.

Well, honestly, I'm happy with some of the changes.  Like getting phone calls returned, and accountability when a mistake is made.  But deleting product lines, and service options is bothering me.

Amen to that! I've seen it several times.

Does that include the heavy duty 3pt kits for WD45/D17 size tractors that use sway blocks instead of chains?

The ones with the sway chains are all deleted.  And yes, I expect the other to increase, but are on sale right now.

Were there problems with the products in the recent past?  I wonder if there was not enough sales to continue the lines being dropped.  It will be interesting to see what happens in the future.

Good to hear that the quality should be getting better. I bought a hitch last year and I was very disappointed with the fit and finish of the hitch.

I take it your talking about the Cross Mfg in Mindenmines not the Cross mfg that makes the hydraulic cylinders?

I wonder what the story is behind letting all the old help go, when I stopped by there I will have to admit they were a rough looking lot but very friendly and provided great service. Its pretty sad because there isnt that many jobs in that area and to lose one is probably a huge life changer, especially if you have some years in.

Paint has always been my biggest complaint.  Shipping with wet paint was common.  I've done business with them for 15 years and this is the 1st major change I've seen over that time.

I didn't know it had sold. Duane went to school with my grandpa and I knew him all my life. Knew about some of the changes and know several of the people affected but didn't know the plant sold
Thanks for the info!
