Hello. Anyone know what the letters that preceed a serial number on an AC-B mean? Dad just phoned that ours starts with a "P" and I wonnder if he misread it and it might actually be a "B." Thanks in advance for any information. AA

They are preceded by a "B", except in the case of the industrial version after 1945, then it is preceded by an "IB".

Like Glenn said the "tractor number" starts with B and that is the model. If it started with CA you would own a CA. The engine serial numbers start with BE or CE.

I just talked to Dad. He said the number he gave me was hand-written in the owners manual under the model number on the inside front cover. The number is "P69990." He thought that was the serial number but he's not sure. He is going to get the serial number off the tractor tomorrow.

If the tractor number is B69990 it would be a late 1944 model B.

It is a B. I am pretty sure it is a 1944 and the serial number would confirm that. I have lots of great memories using this tractor as a youth on the family farm and now that we have a small farm of our own, my wife and I want to restore it. The unfortunate part of the story is that it has a cracked engine block that occured about 10 years ago when I was mowing in some heavy grass with a belly mower. I don't even know where to begin with that problem. Any thoughts from the experts on this page would be much appreciated. Thanks, AA
