Just finished planting beans this past weekend but I have a question. One unit would quit planting so I'd take a look and see beans pushing their way out the outside circumference of the seed disk. I just loosen it and empty the seed chamber and then tighten it up and go again. It didn't happen often but it was annoying. What would cause this? It only would happen to the same single unit. This is my first year using an Allis air planter. Thanks.

The seed discs are not supposed to be flat .....they are to be concave shaped, like a disc blade when loose on the row unit, the outside of the seed disc should touch the aluminum housing BEFORE the nut it fully tightened. That being said, the discs should be loosened after season or removed from the planter so they retain that "concave" profile. My guess is the discs have been left installed for the last 11 months and they have gone flat.

Had that problem once on my DA 385 and was also losing air pressure, and there was a washer on the inside of the seed disc, I put it on the outside of disc and solved the problem.

yes as kevin said it is a loss of air problem. Due to low fan rpm or low voltage or the fan blades coated over and not clean. Also loss of air can be due to plates getting bean hulls of dirt on outside of plate that breaks seal. We cut a V notch on the outside to serve as a scraper on all air planter plates..
