This company was acquired from the Peterson family in 1960 (thereabouts) by Allis Chalmers during its expansion phase.  VIW designed, built and installed paper making machinery in competition with Beloit Iron Works and several others in the industry.  I worked there for a few more years while getting my BSEE from the University of Wisconsin and completely lost track of any contacts after I graduated and moved away.  Valley Iron is long gone from the landscape - buildings are gone too.  Is there anyone on this forum with further information of the company's fate?   Question

Cheers,
Glenn

Buildings are not completely gone, there was a brick building down in what they call the flats, still standing a few years ago and you could faintly see Allis Chalmers on it. Incidentally not 1/4 of a mile to the east of it is the hydroelectric power plant with 3 nice sized Allis Chalmers turbines owned by WE energies still making power. When Allis Chalmers was going down they sold the paper making machinery and fabrics to Voith which built a new plant north of Appleton, on the East side in a industrial park, they eventually gave up paper making machinery and were just making fabric the last I heard. There isnt much paper being made in the Valley anymore. Right next to what is now Voith was another new building Allis Chalmers built to make rock crushers, screens and conveyors etc, but that got sold to Svadalia, which removed the Allis name, which removed Svadalia from that buisness, they put the Allis name back on the machinery but it was to late, and that plant is now a service center for a construction and aggregate co
