Finally made it back downunder after a wonderful road trip from Miami north to Minneapolis then west by Des Moines and Denver, Grand Canyon on to Visalia CA. and finally LAX. Drove over 6000 miles in three weeks. We enjoyed our day at GOTO Gray Tennessee. We must thank all those members of the forum who helped us with advice and showed us great collections. These included Herb Metz, Ron Hill, Marian Klutzke, Dale Haymaker, Doc Smith, and then Dale Hardtke and his brother who drove us into
Milwaukee where we met the grand gentleman of Allis Chalmers Norm Swinford who delighted in showing us round the old tractor factory site and reminising early Allis Chalmers history. He also gave me two autographed copies which I will value for the rest of my life. Many thanks also to the other members who gave us invitations and suggestions but who we could not include in our itenarary becuase of lack of time. While this was not our first road trip it was certainly our best and hope we might make another sometime in the future - thank again. Nev & Alison

We are delighted to hear you and your group had such a wonderful time.  From your itenerary(?) it looks like you covered the USA the very best you could.  To have met MR SWINFORD, attend a GOTO, and all the other items is a trip I feel we all would like to make.
Regards to all our fellow Allis Chalmers forum members from "Down Under"
Good Luck!

Hello Nev & Alison: Pleased to hear you arrived back home and enjoyed your visit to the USA. Meeting you and spending time with someone frome the other side of the world was really special; there is so much to learn. It was a fun afternoon w/ you both and Norm Swinford. Norm is an inspiration with his experience relating to Allis Chalmers and his outlook on life. You  are most welcome anytime you decide to travel to southern Wisconsin.  Dale/Leon Hardtke

Nev, welcome back down under. What tractor collections did you get to see in the area, west from Minneapolis to Denver ? I'm very interested because I'll be visiting that area after the Orange Spectacular in 2011. Nothing like some forward planning.

We also visited a very interesting Pioneer Village at Minden Nebraska about 16 miles south of I-80. A huge collection of old early AC tractors and cars and other early memorabillia.
Saw a very interesting high clearance HD7 on a nursery site between Visalia and Tulare California.  Nev
