Rebuilt the hand clutch (new friction and springs, thanks SLI) and when installed it still slipped. I remembered a tip Bill Long had posted on the forum awhile back on how they always ground 1/8" off the three ears holding the clutch together. I placed the rebuilt clutch under my shop press and noted there was a strong 1/8" gap between the cltch disc and pressure plate side when fully depressed. I ground 1/8" off the three ears of P/N 70325366, Cover, Disc Spring (item 25 as shown in the Allis Parts manual available on-line), re-assembled the clutch and reinstalled it. After grinding the three ears down, the gap (when clutch was depressed) was just noticeable. It now works like new, and engages a lot smoother than before.
I, for one, really appreciate those who are willing to share their knowledge and experience on fixing these tractors on this forum. If it was not for Bill's tip, I would have bolted the clutch together to get my lawn mower CA back to work (and lived without one of the best features, live power, of the CA). Maybe this is why there are CA's out there with bolted/welded hand clutches in them?

Greg,  You know we "stumbled" on that solution back in the 50's.  We did not do the research you did to get the clutch operating. 
Delighed to hear your success.  Also Delighted to see that I can be of some servcie. 
I will do whatever I can to pass on the things I have accumulated over the years.
You will have a good time mowing with that unit.  Especially now that you have the "live"PTO working.  That coupled with the additional power and excellent manueverability of the CA makes it an outstanding mowing tractor.

Which facings did you use? Can't remember if I sold you some or not. When I had purchased thru AGCO years ago, I sent them back, inferior, export lining material AKA junk. I was able to source good Raybesto's linings here in USA, mucho better, gotta use the best with all the work involved in doing these over.

Nope, you did not sell me the clutch reline discs. I purchased the clutch rebuild kit from SLI (clutch discs and springs), so I think they are "AGCO". But based on Bill Long's experience, and they fact that the rebuilt clutch slipped, I investigated further and noted the large gap (1/8") between the clutch pack and the pressure plates. Guess the new springs and/or new clutch relines are not enough to keep the clutch together during operaion. My advice to anyone rebuiding the CA hand clutch is to check out the distance between the clutch pack and the pressure plate; is you see 1/8" gap, then grind off 1/8" on the 3 ears so that the gap is very small.
 
Maybe the clutch friction material is thiiner,or the springs are a little shorter; bottom line, check the gap 1st, if not very small, measure and grind enough off the ears to compensate.
