Dang B&S on Swisher would not start the other day , turn over fine but no start , replaced fuel filter , checked fuel pump (good flow), replaced air cleaner ,
If i give it a shot of either when turning over - starts and runs fine - no power loss , no surging , just runs like normal .
Shut if off with key - will not restart - just turns over - seems choke linkage all moves and works (choke was not needed most times to start)
Seems this is something new as in 4 years no problems and now -
has some type of electronic box on engine that says easy start fuel control - that has several wires leading to carb (what looks like carb) and fuel shut off solonoid .
The fact it runs fine when it does start and responds to throttle - idles and goes to full power - that is what puzzles me .

Don't know much about it but, that sure sounds suspicious. Do you have any manuals?
B&S has some maintenance manuals online. I would try to bypass any start feature just for troubleshooting purposes.

Found this article on the EMF relay they call it - sounds like part of my problem except this guy burned up module so the fuel solonoid did not work . that part seems to still work but somehow the choke is said to be problem . ??? more research or buy a module ?

Here is the B&S page on module

Well after scratching head , using some 4 letter functional words , crawling around and sticking fingers into places not meant to be touched .
I removed 2 -9/32 screws holding the stepper motor for choke rod (yes electronic choke) everything seemed fine - motor worked moving into 3 different positions as key was activated - and then noticed a slight bend in bracket - bent it straight or close and installed - engine started - checked closer and bent about another 1/8" away from engine - moves free and engine starts .

glad it's 'up and running'. Man I can't believe the BS some 'engineer' came up with to replace a knob on a wire in a metal straw to control the choke. Probably $500 in 'bits and pieces' vs $20 'choke cable'.
Then again WHO knows HOW to operate a choke these days ? Any cars have them...hahaha
Technology....

sigh

completly EPA driven, they think that the  consumer isnt capable of turning off the choke in time not to have exsessive emissions also the engine manufacturers have to show they are improving emissions somehow

re:

The same EPA that allows King O to have a 747 go to a golf game? We could all run all of our engines 24/7 all year long with what a 747 pollutes in an hour ! The same EPA that allows a 'custom car' in LA to bypass the CA pollution laws ? !!

what I like are the 'utube'  fixes being posted......'some kind of knobby thing on a wire string that you push and pull'.......
