I am finally putting the Continental engine on my G back together. The Allis G Manual calls for 55 Ft-Lbs on the cylinder head bolts. The continental manual calls for 35-40 ft-lbs and the Massey-Harris Pony manual (uses the same engine ) calls for 37.5 -42.5 ft-lbs. A quick perusal of the internet shows torque values for grade 8 3/8" bolts to be in the low 30's to nothing higher than 45. What number do you all use ?

I went by the AC specs.

I too thought the spec was high, but I used it on two engines.

If you read the specs they also state that there are 2 different length head bolts. Mine were all the same length. LOL Bob

I always have a good coat of tacky copper-cote and stop at no more than 45, never had a problem

Maybe I will just shoot for the middle of the continental range with the bolts lubricated. I'll put a wrench on them later after I get the tractor running. My bolts were all the same length but I replaced six with bolts 1/4" longer. On my tractor the holes that take the longer bolts have about an inch of thread while the holes for the shorter bolts have about .625 inches of thread. So I could go with bolts that are 1/2" longer to make full use of the additional thread.
