Subject: AC 7000 Engine turbo charger

We recently purchased an HD6AG with the 7000 engine. The turbo housing is used up. AC part number is 4359134 for the entire turbo. It does cross to an AiResearch P/N 600590-2. This is the same turbo as the 7G crawler loader. Part number from the existing turbo is a TRW 376B70. Turbo elbow is a 74338108, same as 7G. Any assistance in finding these items would be appreciated. Thanks.

Allis Chalmers used more than one turbo on the 7000 motor. My manuals call for Thomson (TRW 370) another manual calls for 317 series. There are several manufacturers that make turbochargers that fit and will work. The basic size of the turbo is T04B each size can have multiple trims (fine tuning for specific performance conditions) Tractorpartsasap on eBay (866) 609 1260 has a turbo for the 7000 motor for $283.85 He may ask you for some measurements that will determine the trim. He may be able to sell you the worn out internals. Good luck

Thank You. I read a statement last night regarding replacement of the Thompson/TRW turbo with alternate manufacturers' turbos. That is the direction we are going.

I ordered the replacement from All State Ag Parts this morning. From what I can determine from the dimensions it should replace the
Thompson/TRW.

Hi Ages Cat,
I am curious what brand and model of turbo they supplied you with as I may need to replace the turbo on one of my HD6AG's.
Thanks,
Andy

I am wondering why you didn't order it from tractorpartsasap on eBay.
They are the same company as All State Ag Parts. The price on eBay including shipping is about $60 less expensive. Please note the number of oem part numbers one of there turbo's replace. Trim numbers are not very important on heavy equipment. Trim numbers are optimized on performance motors where spool up time is important. Heavy equipment motors have a small RPM range so the remaining problems are related to over pressuring and over and over fueling which is a function of size not trim.

It is never too late to learn so if someone has a different experience than me, please reply I always like to learn.

Dozer: I did not find the referenced turbo on EBAY that you mentioned. I called the number that you provided and I now have the turbo. It appears to be 100% correct. Thank you.

HD6AG: The All State AG part number of the turbo is 100543. They also list the  AC/ Gleaner number as a 74009171. The new turbo is identical to inlet/outlet size and clocking of the outlet into the  intake manifold. This appears to be the one. The outlet elbow which the aspirator connects to is burned out as well. We will either build an elbow or use an aftermarket elbow and modify it. The oil inlet/outlets are also tapped with pipe thread as the TRW unit was. No adapter plates are needed.

Thanks Ages Cat for the part numbers,
You will also have to post a picture of the unit once you have it installed because I am curious what goes between the exhaust side of the turbo and the exhaust elbow on your machine.  My parts book shows nothing.  As such, on one of mine, we fabricated a spacer ring to fill the gap and then used a clamp with some u shaped flanges to hold everything together.  I know it isn't right but it seems to work okay.
Thanks,
Andy

The turbo on my 7G still sings up a storm but I am certain it is on borrowed time.  I too will have to manufacture the trim for exhaust as the elbow behind mine is eroded heavily and leaks considerably at the flange.

There are four bolt holes on the turbo flange. I did order a 90 degree exhaust elbow which has four bolt holes as well. One of the illustrations shows a gasket in between. The two flanges need to be secured to/connected to one another-no doubt.
