Boy I can't remember what ours is but leaning towards black. Maybe later ones were black or back when they were new a new engine put in for some weird reason

Early B-10 (9hp) was yellow, as was the Big Ten (10hp).  The late B-10 that replaced the Big Ten had a black engine.  The transmissions would also share the respective engine colors.

would there be any chance that some of the last BIG TENs could of had a black engine?

Maybe the engine was replaced a some time in its life with a black engine

Tom, going by the picture in your other thread, I would say the engine is newer than the tractor. It has the location on the RH side of the block, for a bendix-type starter to be installed. These didn't come along until maybe the '70s.

Doubtful...if anything I bwt they would paint over the yellow. They were promoting the changes in mewer models and the black was the primary distinguishing visual factor between a Big Ten and late B-10

Funny you should mention that Chris, cause I thought I was seeing the same thing in that pic. I was saying to myself could that be a later model engine??? Sorta' looked like it would take a Starter motor...(?)
