I am starting the restoration of an Allis Super SP100 self propelled combine. I am wondering if there are people out there who know about these, or have restored one themselves. I will post pictures and videos along the way.

First off, thanks for picking this great candidate for restoration! I can't wait to see pics! Super 100s are my favorite All-Crop, so this will be a fun thread for me! Make sure and tell us the serial number! Dennis Anderson on here is also fixing up a regular SP-100. Both combines are about 90% the same machine, so he can help you out I bet!
Good luck!

I agree with Creston!! We will all enjoy seeing pictures of this combine and will help answer any questions you may have along the way. Ryan

Does it run?

Yours wouldn't happen to have the optional creeper gear and/or optional hydro-traction drive, would it? If it has the creeper, it will be a lever on the operator's station near the separator engagement lever. Not the regular gear shift or variable v-belt lever.

That one with the cab is pretty cool. I guess someone found a way to make one work.
I'm not sure which would be worse though. Standing out in the dust, Standing out in the dust, or standing in a little less dust inside a greenhouse

Super 100 has larger tires, a header auger with retractable fingers, an inclined steering wheel, a different decal on the door behind the cylinder, 2 piece unloading auger, a taller radiator stack, and an improved gauge cluster located on the right side of the operator's station. Supers also have remote adjustable saw tooth wind valves. I think that's about it. The regular and Super 100 combined are pretty much the same, other than that. The early regular 100s also had a WD engine, but soon after the WD45 came out, the power crater engine quickly found its way into the 100s.

Yeah! I'd never stay in a cab without air flow! That doesn't seem to have any sort of fan or anything! I was running an M2 this June, and the A/C went out and it got hot quick! Even with the door and window open, it was still super hot!

GIT 'R DONE!!!!! Whoo hoo!!
I still think what you're doing is great. I might advise carefully checking all the bearings (especially the ones that will be hard to access when everything is back together!!) That will make your life much easier once you get out in the field. You won't have to worry about a bearing going out that is a bear to access.
Of course, you're restoring it, so I know you know that! Big smile
Take care of my favorite!! Looks like you're doing great!! I'm hope someday I can find a nice Super 100 and do the same.

That's awesome!! The chute on the spreader isn't the original style, but it's still neat!

If you don't mind, how did you find all these combines??? You seem to just have the best of luck. I'm just looking for 1 Super 100, and I'm not having too much good luck. I found one in Nebraska, but the engine has the plugs out of it (Yikes!) and the header is from a regular 100 and has a JD reel, nonetheless. Sigh....

I remember doing oats and wheat with my "G" combines, i'd duct tape every hole and crack on the cab, close all the windows and door, turn on the fan, and sweat. but I came out itchless! oh....and i'd put a pair of heavy socks over the fan intake too! over the top of the foam filter! interior sure stayed nice and clean too!

Roger, here are some photos from my SP-100 Special Attachments parts catalog that may help you a little bit. This first pic shows the hydro-traction drive, which I'm thinking is really just a hydraulic assist for the variable v-belt drive. If any of your combines has one of these, it is a rare find. I don't know anyone who has ever seen one!

This pic is of the creeper transmission. It is operated by a lever on the operator's platform that you push/pull up or down to engage/disengage. This also is pretty rare. Arland Lepper has a 100 with this transmission, but it's the only one I know of. It reduces the slowest forward travel speed from 1 1/3 mph to 1/2 mph.

Here is a page for the rear discharge chopper/spreader. It has several pages that go with it, so if you'd like more pics of the part numbers and what they correspond to on the drawings, let me know.

Here is another rear discharge spreader pic, it shows the drive system that leads to the gear box drive shaft

And lastly, here is the gear box and the hub/knife assembly.

Like I said, there are several more pages of part numbers that go with these photos, so if you need them,
let me know!

Roger I think I have that parts book if your interested

Roger, Yes, you can buy NEW chains from Tom Yaz I think. I'm not 100% sure. He is a member here, and his website is:
http://allcropharvester.com/" rel="nofollow - http://allcropharvester.com/

Also, if you replace the chains (or any chains for that matter) I recommend replacing the sprockets the chains run on too, unless they are in very good condition. Otherwise the worn sprockets will turn the new chain into a worn out chain faster than greased lightning!

As far as belts go, I buy from V-Belt Guys. They are out of South Dakota, and offer great belts at lower prices than I've seen anywhere else. I typed in the part number of a belt off my 60A into their website, and they pulled it up, and the models it fit.
Here is their website:
http://www.vbeltguys.com/" rel="nofollow - http://www.vbeltguys.com/

Mikez, the book is form D-37, it is not the manual I got from you. Yours was TM-134. I got this one, as well as a 100 master parts catalog from a guy at the annual steam and gas engine show in Pawnee, OK.

Hey Everyone. Roger wanted me to throw a picture on of where we are at with the combine. Last fall we got a lot of the smaller pieces primed and painted. Now we are finally getting back after the project and are planning on getting the frame painted in the next couple weeks.  I know he has a bunch of different pictures from last fall that i will try to get from him and get put on here. Unfortunately it has been a busy year and the combine project has been slow. Thanks for your patience!

Don’t forget that Allis had bought Gleaner Baldwin Bros. So there wasn’t much reason to put much time or money into the SP100. My opinion is that Allis would have to redesign the SP100 quite a bit.

That's true, but they did re-design it for the prototype 110 combine. Sort of took the separator and turned it end-wise, making it straight-through.
I doubt a 100 could handle more than a 2 or 3 row (might be pushing it) corn head, and even then it wouldn't cover the width of the machine.

A few comments here and I recall a few from this time frame.
people were going from ear corn to shelled, even after picking you still run it through a sheller (MM) when one could be hired.
Dad bought a used Gleaner that had been used well for wheat harvests, and as a bonus it had a used corn head (Case?)adapted to it, I'm thinking this was late '50s.  A big discussion with neighbors was will a combine hold up to ear corn going through it.
I think the 60, 66, 72 were getting a corn head at that time also. A lot of different Gleaners were coming out also, Dad bought a new Gleaner E with corn head in 64. Things were happening fast, I may have some time line errors, but this is the way I remember it, so I'm sticking to it!

The Allis 110 combine was at the Gleaner factory in 1962. It was sitting behind some building. I late friend told me that when he was at the plant watching the first 3 E combines go down the line being put together with sledgehammers.

I wonder if it wasn't out there for testing in wheat?  It was obviously built in LaPorte, its interesting that they had it in KC.

The belt 70521933 is NLA from AGCO and I couldn't find any in inventory anywhere.  But, it is a HL series belt and has an outer circumference of 68.2 inches.

Good to know, Jim. I’ll have to do some looking as well. Would be nice to find a source for them, because I’m my opinion that’s the 2nd most important belt on the combine! (1st being fan belt)

HL is a 3/8 pitch timing belt.

I'm thinking this belt would have been a notched or molded tooth belt.
Goodyear used to make notched belts in the heavier sizes.

I looked on Gate's website at a few wide V belts that have the wavy underside, but the links to the any of them wouldn't open up.

If you know the width and the (cord) pitch, it may be worthwhile to contact Gates.
I'd be happy to check it out, if someone can give me those dims.
The OD may suffice.

Where is the serial number located on the super sp 100? How much do one of these sell for in good running condition?

Serial number on a SP-100 and a Super 100 are in the same place. Stamped on top of the frame, on the left rear side. The draw bolt for the header counter balance spring usually points right at it.
The green circle in the photo below shows the location.
As far as worth...do you have any photos? The cheapest 100 I've seen was $10, and the most expensive was a restored machine (Super 100) for $8,000. Most I've seen are in the $1,000-$3,000 range, although I have seen a couple bring $4,000.

Thanks Joe! I'm sure there are others who know more than me, though. Most of what I've learned about the 100's is from reading the operator's manual and talking to those who have used them or used to use them back in the day.
