What is the proper method for measuring the hydraulic oil level in the D-Series and 100 Series tractors.  Do you unscrew the dipstick, wipe it and then re-screw it back in, unscrew it again and read it??  Or, do you unscrew it, wipe it, then insert it to the threads, pull it back out and read it??  I haven't found any place in any of the D-series manuals that tells the proper way.  I suppose that I am so old that with all the screwing, unscrewing, inserting and then pulling it out I am just confused !!!

If I made you chuckle, good !!  But I am looking for a straight answer.

Thanks,

Dana Hobson

I have always just stuck it back in and pulled it out to read it. All that screwing seemed like too much work to me and I alway figured a little extra oil was probably better then too little. If you over fill the power direct clutch pack it will puke out and didn't seem to hurt anything... not that I would ever over fill anything.
