I have two manifolds with a bad side each and im going to hopefully make one good one out of the two. I have a gasket set from Norm and a new tube to install. Any tips on installing this tube? Im thinking with the two halves apart to press it in from the top, toward carburetor mounting flange end. I was going to put the tube in the freezer first. is there any sealant to be used that would hold up to the heat?

Norm would be the one to ask.

Manifold gasket seals the top and carburetor manifold gasket seals the bottom. Shouldn't need anything else. Now, that being said, I have put in a couple without taking manifold apart. I put a small bead of red silicone around the top. Have been holding for at least 8 years and still going. Let me know how you make out getting those manifolds apart, I have a couple that I haven't been able to get apart without destroying them!

well i successfully got both manifolds apart except for 1 heat chamber i had to break, it was already cracked anyway and the PO had removed the studs and used bolts which were rusted tight into the heat chamber. i got my good exhaust side and good intake side cleaned up and started to put together and noticed the one intake has been milled off, it was short 1/8 inch on the ports to the head compared to the exhaust.
soooo.... i had to clean up the other intake and weld it. the front clamping tab had been broken off and had been repaired by chickens crapping on it.
i had the tube placed in the freezer and got it started by hand from the top. my theory was if any material was removed it would be toward the carb where the gasket seals it. the old manifold was pulling exhaust from the heat chamber through the top layer. it seals in 3 places. carb, bottom of heat chamber area, and at the top where it bolts together, so i wanted maximum material there. i used my press and gently pushed it in. after that is was simply bolting together with the gaskets.
the 4 studs coming out of the top were questionable, and if i had time and the right studs i would have replaced them but, our tractor pull being this weekend and with me helping setup everything.. no time.
i got the new manifold pair installed and fired the tractor up to see if i did anything right. tractor ran smoother than before. i let everything get good and hot to get aquainted and burn off the pb blaster used through out.
i was in a big hurry and didnt take any pictures, but i think i can get some tonight to help explain the process.
