Hi all.  I told my neighbor I would get some basic advise for him for his WD PTO ailement.  I don't have a clue since I have a D 15 and the books for it.

He uses this WD (believe it or not) to power his 10 foot three blded mower for cutting grass on and round his air strip.

Anyow Tommy told me this am that the gear that drives the pto shaft has chipped teeth.  He does have another WD parts tractor in a shed.  So I am looking for some basic guidance to give him on how to get to the innerds to replace the bad gears.

Like do you split it and then what, or can you get it done from underneath.  I am assuming that it is a tranny disassembly?

So would apreciate some basic guidance on how to go about it.

Thanks all

If it was me, I'd Look at the rear PTO shaft bearing and then drain the oil and then drop the PTO box and look at the gears, bearings in there first, Then look at the drive gear in the trans.

There are gears in the bottom cover. If it is one of those, drain the fluid, remove the bottom cover and replace it with the one off the parts tractor. If it is higher up, the tranny would have to come apart.

we also have the gears in stock for repair  if you are lucky maybe just top idler gear on pto box  also check the pto pin as it is a good culprit for a gear failure

I have had two 45s ptos out. Both times it was the top idler gear. weakest point. You have to split the tractor and remove pump hand clutch ect. I have done it twice , not much fun. Bush hog and age got em.
